"Jokey's Medicine" is a Season 1 episode of the 1980s Smurfs cartoon.

Plot

Smurfette, Greedy, and Lazy want to punish Jokey for his jokes.

Why It Had A Taste of It's Own Medicine (In A Good Way)

  1. The animation is very good and slightly better than the first episode, because of having more colorful colors and because of having a bit less animation errors.
  2. It had so many funny moments as it is focused on Jokey, such as when Jokey play jokes on the others, even though he do it way too much, and when the Smurfs escape from Azrael.
  3. The plan Smurfette and the other did so that Jokey stop his jokes was clever and very funny, even if the moment where Jokey got played a joke on him was where it started to be really funny.
  4. It had a good moral that sometime you should stop your jokes on other peoples such as getting explosion gifts because it can happen to you and you will not like it, and if you play too much jokes on the peoples, they will reject you.
  5. Gargamel and Azrael actually appear in this story without ruining the episode, and they even make it better than it's already is, by being very funny characters.
  6. It was a perfect introduction to Jokey character, as he's very funny and does sort of learn his lesson in the end.
  7. Good Ending: Jokey save the others from Gargamel and Azrael and they forgive him for his jokes, and then one of his gift explode on him and he said "That's Not Funny", which is a very funny quote.

Bad Qualities

  1. Jokey still play a bit too much jokes on the others and because of this, he had to get a taste of his own medicine to stop his jokes, despite being funny.
  2. It still had a few animation errors at times.

Reception

It had a rating of 6.7 on IMDb.

Trivia

  • This is the first episode of the series in which Clumsy does not appear in and the only season 1 episode that does not feature him.
  • Papa Smurf has a minor role, though unlike the other episodes, he only speaks offscreen. He is seen earlier in the episode eating a Smurf's cake.
  • The beginning shot recycles footage from "The Smurf's Apprentice".
  • The scene where Jokey presents Hefty with a gift is very similar to the scene in "King Smurf". Jokey also says "I guarantee you’ll get a Big Bang out of it" just like that episode.
  • This is one of the very few episodes in which Papa Smurf inflicts psychical harm on one of the Smurfs, with the other instances being "The Purple Smurfs", "The Hundredth Smurf", and "Cave Smurfs".
  • In the syndicated version, the ending of the episode is cut out; the episode simply ends with the Smurfs laughing at Gargamel.
  • The voices in this episode are slightly deepened.
