Keeping Up With the Kardashians is a live-action reality TV series that is mainly focused around the personal and professional lives of the Kardashians. It premiered in 2007 and ended in 2021 after 20 seasons.

Why You Should Never Keep Up With Them

  1. The main problem with this show is that it has zero reasons to exist, since the family were only famous for their lawyer dad, Robert Kardashian, who defended OJ Simpson in court, and Kim Kardashian being Jay-Z's ex-girlfriend who filmed a sextape with each other. In other words, it was made because of the family being famous for being famous, which is a horrible excuse to give them their own TV Show in the first place, especially considering that it was made after Robert Kardashian's death in 2001, which by the way is Disrespecting the Dead, since it's profiting off a family of a dead lawyer who became famous for their sexy appearances and nothing else, making this one of the most pointless celebrity shows to exist period.
  2. They deliberately fail on not keeping expensive things fractured. This scene is a great example of it.
  3. A lot of family conflict, they argue almost every episode for stupid reasons such as not having the sprinkle flavor they wanted.
  4. Although all of the family members are unlikable, Kim Kardashian is the most unlikable.
  5. It has nothing unique nor interesting about it that makes it stand out from other live-action reality TV shows, since it overuses many tropes from said genre and doesn't nothing new to convert the status quo at all and instead plays thing way too safe, which is proof why this show was never going to work in the first place.
  6. Quantity Over Quality: Like Toddlers and Tiaras and Teen Titans Go!, it lasted way too long for a widely hated show, having a total of 20 seasons, 69 twenty-two minute episodes (for the first to sixth seasons), 210 forty-two minute episodes (for the seventh to twentieth seasons), and had a lifespan of 14 years, showing how E! was blind to the negative criticism of the show.
  7. Just like Fred: The Show, it manages to be both boring and annoying at the same time.
  8. Awful acting, since many of the family members act very childish and their voices can get extremely whiny and grating very quickly, and this is mostly due to them being awful people who act selfish and whine over very small things that aren't a big problem and can be solved very easily. The biggest example is Kendall Jenner, who acts so hip and cool that her voice gets annoying fast and is hard to listen to overall.
  9. One of the family members (Kylie) had started an Internet Challenge involving making your lips big like hers, which is dangerous since it can bruise your lips badly if you do it (even permanently).
  10. The lack of intelligence of this show is obvious, as nearly every single family member, especially Kim Kardashian herself, is self-absorbed and desperate for more fame and attention for the sake of forced drama/conflict, hence making them all come off as spoiled, whiny brats.
  11. Misleading title for the later seasons: The irony of the matter is that while the show is called "Keeping Up with the Kardashians", the later seasons of the show seem more focused on the Jenners.
  12. By Season 7, the show's length increased by 20 minutes, probably to put in more ads for the sake of money's name.
  13. It has a lot of terrible spin-offs, including, but are not limited to:
    • Kourtney and Kim Take Miami/New York
    • Khloé & Lamar
    • Lord Distick : Lifestyles of a Lord
    • Kris
    • Kourtney and Khloé Take The Hamptons
    • Dash Dolls
    • I Am Cait
    • Kocktails with Khloé
    • Revenge Body with Khloé Kardashian
    • Rob & Chyna
    • Life of Kylie
    • Flip It Like Disick
  14. This show is the main reason why being a socialite with a wealthy, glamorous lifestyle has received such a negative reputation among society nowadays.
  15. Nearly every single episode of the show is padded out with filler just to get to the 22 minute mark for TV Broadcasting standards since this is meant to be a reality show after all, which makes the episodes a chore to watch even for a newcomer to the show itself.
  16. Awful camerawork, as the camera tends to jiggle at times and not keep up with the actors on set for the recording of the show, which makes the show look amateurish at times, and to make matters worse is that it saw no improvement in later seasons and is still just as bad as it was before.
  17. The mean spirited nature of the show can get rather creepy at times, since the show portrays itself as more of a girl fight rather than an actual reality show with the characters getting into quarrels and clashes a lot of the times, and some violence is even also in fact displayed in the show, which can make the show a very scary experience to watch for viewers.
  18. Cheap stock music that just plays in the background and is the same tiring thing over and over again, which can make it a repetitive listening experience for the viewer.
  19. Nearly every episode is the exact same with zero differences to distinguish them from each other, and many of the conflicts are usually the exact same with the series never changing throughout it's runtime, making the series extremely repetitive and annoying for most viewers, and even with the switch to the Jenners, it still was the same terrible show it was before with awful writing and unlikable characters.
  20. The show put a bad influence on reality celebrity shows since due to how successful it was with the show itself coinciding with the Kardashian's fame and glory, it keep getting milked and has inspired several other bad celebrities to make crappy celebrity reality shows based on them as well and considering that the show kept running out of ideas due to poor writing, it's legacy on the TV business cursed Television as a whole and thus became an example of a bad reality show based on celebrities (and rather untalented ones at that).

Redeeming Qualities

  1. There are some good and wholesome moments in the series, such as when the family is caring for each other.
  2. The older seasons at least don’t have the Jenners overshadowing the Kardashians.
  3. The final episodes of this show are a great way to end the series and they are considered to be a big improvement over the whole series.
  4. It's considered to be a "So Bad it's Good" type show due to the low quality effort it had into it but how easy to laugh at of how bad it is due to amount of moments that are so annoying that they come off as laughable and easy to joke at, and since the show is filled with these moments, it can make the viewer emphasize the show as a laughably bad show, as a bad show just to make fun of and easy to point out how bad it is.

Reception

This show is known for it's extremely negative reception by both audiences and critics alike, and is one of the worst reviewed shows ever since it's premire. It was criticized for the high degree of emphasis on the "famous for being famous" concept, lack of intelligence, excessive usage of arguement and family conflict, and for appearing to fabricate some aspects of its storylines. However, the show did recieve some positive reviews from people who considered it their guilty pleasure and found it "So bad, it's good". It is often featured in lists of the worst tv shows ever made. Despite the negative reception, it was still succesful, had high ratings and viewership, and won several audience awards, making it one of the network's most succesful shows to date. It recieved several spin offs, which were no better either. It currently has a 2.8/10 on IMDb.
