Kickassia is a web series made by Channel Awesome. It is Channel Awesome's second-anniversary special event and is a series of six episodes.

Plot

It follows the contributors of Channel Awesome as they conquer the Republic of Molossia, a micronation in the Nevada desert. They rename the place Kickassia and come to blows with the self-declared president, the Nostalgia Critic.

Why It Got Its Ass Kicked

  1. The scope is too big for the special to do justice.
    • On the other hand, the six parts are padded, giving the impression that the special is a three-parter disguised as a six.
  2. Most of the contributors are just cameos.
  3. A lot of the humor comes from either in-joke only a hardcore fan could get or crassness, such as the quote "Say, Critic, do you get a lot of pussy with that outfit?"
  4. There's a lengthy "It's time!" sequence that gets old fast.
  5. A lot of the contributors have different personalities, which is a baffling example of poor research on Doug Walker's (the Nostalgia Critic) part:
    • Film Brain is portrayed as overly bubbly and excited, which is a far cry from his "Bad Movie Beatdown" self, and just generally annoying.
    • Lee Davidge's only personal trait is that he's a 2D image turned 3D. That's it.
    • Dr. Insano is treated as Spoony's alter ego, which has never been Insano's backstory.
    • Obscurus Lupa allegedly hated her personality in this special.
    • Dr. Smith has no reason to be here other than to reference the Lost in Space review.
  6. A lot of the acting is bad:
    • Severally performances are obnoxiously over the top, mainly whenever Spoony is talking about Insano.
    • Kevin Baugh, on the other hand, has no emotion in his voice at all, though that's probably what happens when you get a micronation president to act.
  7. Speaking of Baugh, the special never explains if he has a split personality or is just acting.
  8. The Nostalgia Chick does a riff on Sarah Palin. This was about 2 years after Palin was relevant.
  9. The special sets up Kevin as Fritz von Baugh as the antagonist of the second half... only to drop him from the story until the very end.
  10. Doug plans to blow up Kickassia if everyone rebels, but that would just get him killed as well.
  11. Chapter 4's title is pure nonsense. The Beginning of the End of the Beginning?
  12. Ma-Ti's cameo serves no purpose to the storyline whatsoever and essentially amounts to "Don't be a douche".
  13. Dr. Insano is rendered pointless.
  14. The "We Believe in Santa Christ!" chant goes on for way too long.
  15. What was Linkara's plan exactly?
  16. Santa Christ serves as a blatant Deus Ex Machina.
  17. Terrible ending: Doug just returns Molossia to Baugh.
  18. Though not as bad as Suburban Knights or To Boldly Flee, there were several production problems:
    • Apparently, Doug had to be told to provide food and water, in the middle of the desert of Nevada.
    • The crew at one point got interrupted by a window wiper.
  19. All in all, it was a terrible way to celebrate the second anniversary.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Most of the acting is pretty good.
  2. Great music, especially for the intro.
  3. The intro with the narrator is also good.
  4. The scene in the Hotel room is funny, particularly the "Are we Nazis, or are we Nazis?" speech.
  5. The bit with the crew doing a "Badass March", only for Baugh to just pull out an Uzi and send them running, is clever.
  6. The Nostalgia Critic as Raul Julia's M. Bison? Hilarious imitation and costume! ("Of Course!")
  7. Linkara does a decent riff on Patton.
  8. Dr. Insano is hilarious, despite his flanderization.
  9. Ask That Guy's cameo is a decent parody of his role in the first special.
  10. Seeing the contributors act together was amazing, at least for the time.
  11. Hilarious outtakes.
