Kiri and Lou is an animated television series.

Plot

Kiri and Lou is an animated series for children, hand-crafted in stop motion with creatures made of clay, in a forest of cut out paper. Each five minute story is told with humour and joy, about the friendship of two prehistoric creatures and their adventures in the forest. Kiri and Lou laugh and sing and play all kinds of games with their friends, as they learn to deal with the emotions of childhood. The series is written and directed by Harry Sinclair, based on an original idea by Rebecca Kirshner and Harry Sinclair.

Why It Rocks

  1. Amazing stop-motion animation created by Stretchy.
  2. Simple but adorable art style and character designs.
  3. The show's tone is very down-to-earth despite the show involving prehistoric characters.
  4. Much like Bluey, Bob the Builder for 1998 and the classic seasons of Thomas & Friends and unlike some CBeebies and Nick Jr. shows, each episode of the series is well thought out and it tries to not be generic, preachy, and done in a way where it is only enjoyable to small children. Instead, they're usually written in a way where the show doesn't try to hard pander to just young children and tries to appeal to children of all ages.
  5. Many likable characters in the show, including the titular duo Kiri and Lou, plus the side characters.
  6. Lots of heartwarming and funny moments throughout.
  7. The theme song and credits are good.
  8. The voice actors do great jobs voicing their respective characters, especially Jemaine Clement (who voiced Tamatoa in Moana) and Olivia Tennet.
  9. It can be seen as one of the rare Nick Jr. acquired programming (that isn't PAW Patrol) that premiered in the 2020s.

Bad Qualities

  1. It includes farting (which is very out-of-place for a preschool cartoon, and also counts as gross-out humor) mostly done by Pania. In fact, there's an entire episode about Pania farting.
  2. The show could be boring at times.
  3. Unfortunately, only the first two seasons of Kiri and Lou are on Paramount+, and not all of Season 3 and 4's episodes have made it to Nick Jr. USA yet.

Reception

It had received a rating of 8.6/10 in IMDb.
