Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie (also known as Ladybug & Cat Noir Awakening during early production) is an animated musical film based on Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. It was released in France on July 5, 2023, originally planned to be released around Summer 2022.
De bonnes qualités miraculeuses (Good Qualities that are Miraculous)
- The movie is an actual huge improvement over the disastrous seasons 3-5, which was criticized for its abysmal and confusing ending.
- The animation is buttery smooth, fluid, and a huge step up to the series. The animation almost looked like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which is just as good.
- Good voice acting as usual as the voice actors from the show reprise their roles.
- The songs are magnificent, catchy, and are great to listen to.
- It is faithful to the franchise and Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, in general.
- Lou still does a good job as Marinette's singing voice, even in the English dub she does a solid job.
- Hawk Moth, unlike in the original series goes through character development and decides to imprison himself off-screen. So slightly more tolerable than his original series counterpart.
- Like The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, it is a musical, which Miraculous has never done before (not counting Santa Claws, although an okay episode).
- The visuals are nice to look at.
- Overall, the film managed to save the entire Miraculous franchise as a whole. And would have been a great series finale if it didn't continue past it.
Mauvaises qualités qui devraient être akumatisées (Bad Qualities that should be Akumatized)
- Hawk Moth, while more likable than in seasons 3-5 of the original series, still has his flaws.
- Adrien's song, while good, is rather cheesy, and stale.
- Tikki has been somewhat flanderized in this film, which eventually carried over into the series proper, fortunately, she's still likable.
- There is Toilet/Gross-Out Humor in the movie, especially from Plagg.
Reception
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 50% based on 14 reviews.
