"Let's Try This Again" is the first episode of the 2023 revival of Clone High (As well as season 2 as a whole).

Plot

After most of the clones became unfrozen after 20 years, they now have to get used to the modern decade with new clones at the school, along the way, Joan is now seen as cool, Cleo isn't popular anymore, Joan and JFK's relationship is still going strong, and Abe needs to avoid getting cancelled, along with Scudworth falling in love with Candied.

Why It Should Get Cancelled

  1. For starters, this is a very harsh Abe Lincoln torture episode as he gets belittled and injured in the entire episode and is seen as the "bad guy".
  2. It started the flanderizations of the original clones with Abe being a pathetic punching bag, Joan being a petty and cynical jerk, JFK being more dimwitted than ever, and Cleo getting sidelined without having much of a role and being a generic alpha mean girl.
    • The Gen Z clones are no better either with Confucius being obsessed with social media all the time, Harriet being a neat freak who wants things her way, and Frida being a boring hippie stereotype.
  3. This episode is also nitrous for having way too much gore like with Cleo mutilating herself in very graphic and disturbing ways and Abe always getting injured by usually cutting himself unintentionally.
  4. The way this episode tackles cancel culture is very cringe worthy and annoying as they use it all the time and will make the audience groan while watching it.
  5. Joan is very unlikable in this episode as she betrays Abe so she could be with the popular group, even though in the first season, she didn't care about popularity and would never back stab her friends like that, it's like if the writers didn't even watch season 1 at all (ironic because Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, creators of the original series, also wrote this episode).
  6. The humor is a downgrade from season 1 like with the Lotsa Farts Unity Luncheon joke and JFK overusing sex jokes, while he did say sex puns in the first season, he didn't say them as often as here.
  7. While the animation is still good, it's a downgrade compared to the first season as it feels more stiff and limited.
  8. Terrible ending: Abe earned back Joan's respect by letting people pour hot sauce on his paper cuts and after Joan thanks him, she immediately goes back to JFK and ditches Abe once again.
  9. Overall, this was a very weak and uninspired start of the second season (or 2023 revival) of a once beloved animated satire as it seemed that Lord and Miller had barely any involvement in it due to focusing more on Across the Spider-Verse and made people disappointed by this revival as they expected a lot more (luckily, it did improve on season 3).

Sex Positive Qualities

  1. Abe, Cleo (despite being sidelined), Topher, Scudworth, Mr. Butlertron, and Candied are among the only likable characters in the episode.
    • With Abe, it's easy to feel sorry for him due to all the pain and torture he goes through.
    • Topher is the only likable Gen Z clone as he actually feels like a Clone High character and feels like he was ripped straight out of the first season.
    • While Cleo isn't given much to do in this episode, she has been flanderized the least unlike the other clones.
    • Scudworth and Mr. Butlertron are among the best characters in this episode as they kept their original personalities and are more hilarious than ever, and their subplot is among the most entertaining in the episode.
    • Candied is a very interesting and worthy new addition to the cast.
  2. While the animation is still a downgrade, it still looks great, thanks to Jam Filled Entertainment, the same animation studio involved with The Loud House and Inside Job.
  3. Some funny moments like Scudworth's re-education song, Abe making a fake apology video, and the mentions of Gandhi.
  4. The first three minutes of the episode were very promising and good as it reintroduced the setting of the show and picked up where the season 1 finale left off amazingly, along with the montage of Scudworth unfreezing the clones one by one, which was very exciting and intense to see, it was too bad it all went downhill after that.

Reception

"Let's Try This Again" gained mixed to negative reviews from critics and fans with them pointing out the overusage of shock humor, the flanderizations of the old characters and poor characterizations of the new characters, the lame jokes, and the Abe torture. This episode currently has an average rating of 6.4/10.
