Let’s Get Serious is the 32nd episode of the 2nd season of Teen Titans Go!.

Synopsis

After the Young Justice heroes easily take out the H.I.V.E. while the Teen Titans make silly jokes, Robin makes the team become more serious, which he eventually regrets.

Why It Tripped Over The Serious Line

  1. To get the elephant out of the room, this is the first episode of Teen Titans Go!, where the writers insult the haters and fans who hate the focus of comedy and less serious action on their show. This episode started this awful trend. What’s so bad about these types of episodes is that writers never change how they make the show, which does nothing aside from insult the viewers.
  2. This episode proves a lot about how pathetic the show is. At the beginning of the episode, all of the flaws of this show and the flaws of the characters are stated completely. But even though this show notices its flaws, it never does anything to fix it. But instead, they use the acknowledgment of its flaws to completely use so much work and effort to lash at the criticism that this show gets.
  3. This episode is arguably the worst crossover episode of Teen Titans Go! as the protagonists of the cancelled Young Justice series just shows up to insult the Titans.
    • While the Young Justice team does appear, only Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) is accurately portrayed, while Superboy and Miss Martian are doing things that they didn't visibly do in the original Young Justice show.
  4. The “It’s Time to Get Serious Song” is cringeworthy, due to the visuals.
  5. Robin suddenly mentioning his dead parents was both strange and rather unnecessary for a kids' show.
  6. The Titans turn themselves into "serious" people but the results didn’t work out, but for all the wrong reasons:
    • The Titans' "serious attitude" makes them look dumber than serious!
    • Speaking of their "serious designs", they look hilariously awful, gross and creepy as the designers have tried too hard to make the Titans look serious with "realistic features" (where the face designs look uncanny with their chins wide up to their mouths for the Titans), they look like a weird hybrid of rejected Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure characters and rage faces, which may be an insult to the JoJo series.
  7. The H.I.V.E. Five are even weaker than they are in other episodes.
  8. Plot Hole: Billy Numerous is wielding an AK-47 in one scene, why is that? He has self-replicating powers, so why would he need a gun?
    • On top of that, he never actually used the gun, not a single bullet was fired.
  9. Also, to be “serious”, the Titans act depressing and broody. That’s not how it’s done!
  10. Bad Moral: Being serious makes you look like a complete idiot.
  11. The overuse of the word "serious" can get on your last nerve, especially in the "Serious" song.
  12. The episode was just made to poke fun at people who complain about the show's lighthearted tone.
  13. To make matters worse, there is also a dumb moment at the end of the episode where Beast Boy and Cyborg get into a heated argument as Beast Boy accuses Cyborg for drinking his juice. The fight gets so intense, only for the Titans to scream and lash out as the Titans Tower explodes, thus, leaving the Titans disbanded at the end of this episode.
  14. Not only does this episode poke fun at the people who complain about the show lacking the dark and serious tones from the original 2003 show, but it also pokes fun at the people who complain about the show replacing Young Justice, which originally got canceled after season 2 due to poor toy sales, which its toy licensee, Mattel, pulled its funding, until the series returned for a third season, titled Young Justice: Outsiders on DC Comics' streaming service, and later renewed again, for the fourth and recent season titled: Young Justice: Phantoms on HBO Max, only.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The Young Justice team appear and are not very cringeworthy and the way they call the Titans out is relatable.
  2. Serious Robin's quote: "There is good and there is evil and the line between them is clear."
    • The "Let's Get Serious" song, despite the cringeworthy visuals, can be found funny.
    • The ending was a little bit funny, and does have creative visuals.
  3. The Titans were at least doing some awesome stuff, like blowing up a nuke for instance.
  4. It came out right before a slew of movies and series over the coming years that could be considered "too serious". To wit, a few months after the episode first aired, Man of Steel had a scene where Superman breaks General Zod's neck to save the city, much to the ridicule of comic fans. Its relevance temporarily skyrocketed when the 2018 Titans show was revealed, being a darker take on the comics with at-first mixed reception, meaning hindsight had briefly turned "Let's Get Serious" into a surprisingly accurate parody of DC's own body of work.

Trivia
