Life's a Jungle: Africa's Most Wanted is a 2012 computer-animated adventure comedy mockbuster directed by Robert D. Hanna and produced by Prevalent Entertainment. The film is a mockbuster of Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted.
Plot
The story follows the adventures of a pampered terrier named Pip. One day, Pip accidentally gets separated from his owners during a vacation in the African Safari. As a result, he must try to adapt to a new way of life in the jungle while trying to gain the other animals' trust.
Why This Life Ain't No Jungle nor Africa's Most Wanted
- Misleading title: The subtitle says Africa's Most Wanted although Pip is not really wanted. So, the movie is trying to cash in on the movie Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted by simply copying its title. This is pointed out by Vailskibum.
- While not completely terrible in particular, the animation is below average.
- That also leads to weird character movements. Pip is a big offender since he is bipedal as he walks on his hind legs, even when his owners are around. It does not help that he has arms. This also applies to the rhinos, who are bipedal most of the time, but in one scene, they are quadrupedal since they move on four legs.
- There are multiple awkward instances of silence that make the film drag on. The fact that the running time is 100 minutes long doesn't help either.
- The sound effects are placed incredibly poorly. You can even hear static noises too.
- The story steals elements from films such as Madagascar, The Jungle Book, and The Lion King.
- Unlikeable and annoying characters, especially Pip, who is rude, snobbish, and an unlikeable protagonist overall.
- Awful voice acting, especially for the rhinos.
- In fact, the voice acting is so bad that I Hate Everything thought Pip was called "Poop".
- Really unfunny jokes, including toilet humor.
- Horrendous dialogue.
- The design of a cat character shown near the beginning of the film does not fit the style of the other character designs and looks like it was ripped from a video game. The same can be said for a lion shown later in the film, and the panther cub.
- Sometimes, the characters open their mouths disturbingly wide, revealing detailed interiors.
- Error on the DVD case: The case says the film is 1 hour and 10 minutes long while the DVD says it's 1 hour and 28 minutes long, but the actual film is 1 hour 40 minutes long, making it longer than Madagascar 3, meaning that the creators were too lazy to put the true running time.
Redeeming Qualities
- Although very simple and underwhelming, the music is catchy.
- The hyenas are the only likeable and interesting characters.
- Despite the below average animation, some of the characters actually have neat designs.
Reception
Unsurprisingly, the movie was panned by critics and viewers alike, receiving a score of 1.5/10 on IMDb and 33% on Rotten Tomatoes.
