Little Princess is a British children's television series based on a series of books of the same name by Tony Ross.

Plot

The series is about a little unnamed princess who is curious and stubborn, questioning how the world works.

Why It's a Royal Disaster

  1. The Princess is a somewhat unlikeable character and terrible role model for kids.
    • She is incredibly spoiled, whiny, bossy, obnoxious, and selfish, and she rants and demands stuff, like what she wants or what her parents and servants have to give her back.
    • She also screams at the top of her lungs and throws a meltdown in several episodes. She doesn't care about anything or anyone except herself and is mean to everyone around her.
    • Whenever she screams, her mouth opens wide in a scary way.
  2. The King and Queen are weak parents, and all the servants of the castle are depicted as slaves who have no opinions about anything and solely exist to cater to the Princess and the Princess alone.
  3. This show doesn't teach any morals about desirable behavior and how to recognize and deal with undesirable behaviors. Instead, it actively encourages anti-social, mean behavior, and the adult characters support this with their behavior and speech.
  4. The episodes all follow the same plot: The Princess wants or doesn't want something, and in the end, she gets what she wants, and everyone's happy, which can get boring and repetitive fast.
  5. The voice acting is atrocious. The Princess has the most annoying voice out of all the characters, especially when she screams.
  6. The stories don't make sense, and the settings are unrealistic.
  7. The theme song is repetitive. The lyrics are basically "She's a little princess" repeated over and over again.
  8. The characters have no personality and are very underdeveloped. Not to mention some of them are dumb. For example:
    • The General thinks his wooden horse toy is real and makes horse sounds every time he runs.
    • The Queen barely takes care of the Princess and is very neglectful.
    • The Prime Minister thinks kissing babies is part of his job.
    • The Maid is a bossy, enslaved woman who compelled to look after the Princess 24 hours a day.
  9. The show feels way past its time. The books first published in the 1980s, but the show based on them was released in 2006, years after the books published. If the show released in the early 1990s, around the same time the books promoted, it would have been more understandable and rightly timed.
  10. The episode "I Want to Be a Baby", almost all of it.
  11. Some shots depict Little Princess being NAKED, going as far as showing the viewers her "top half". This is supposed to be a TV-Y (or U in the UK or G in Australia) rated kids' show, mind you.
  12. Although the art style is decent and faithful to the source material, the animation is stiff and stilted, which makes it look like if it was animated by a little girl.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The art style is pretty good since it is faithful to the source material, and nothing changes.
  2. The Princess' parents and friends are strong enough to teach her that it's not okay to throw meltdowns and help her find a better solution to her problems.
  3. The show has some pretty funny jokes.
  4. Even though the Princess demands most of the time, she always tries to make up for it and apologize.
  5. If we remove the lyrics, the theme song is more acceptable with bunch of kazoos.
  6. Some may find it so bad it's good.
