God save you if you have nightmares with the game over screen of Mario 3: Around the World. But really? Mario 4: A Space Odyssey as a clone of the previous game, only with lots of difference? Also, the title screen looks like Mario is doing an orchestra in Mario 4.

Mario 3: Around the World (Марио 3: Вокруг Света) and Mario 4: A Space Odyssey (Марио 4: Космическая Одиссея) are bootleg Mario games developed by BMB, a relatively unknown Russian developer.

Why They Don't Go Around the World nor Are They Gorgeous Odysseys

Mario 3: Around the World

  1. Dull and monotonous gameplay. It's just your standard 2D Mario platform game, only worse.
  2. Only 3 stages in the entire game: Egypt, Aztecas & Winter.
  3. Slippery and bad controls. When Mario jumps, it feels like he is floating for a second, then suddenly falls.
  4. Only two power-ups in the entire game.
    • Mario's appearance doesn't even change. Although the power-ups still work, you would probably eventually not know that Mario had a mushroom or fire flower.
  5. Mario's jump sound effect is very primitive, sounding like something out of an Atari 2600 game. Despite being ripped straight from the ZX Spectrum version of the game Uwol: Quest for Money. Unsurprisingly, ZX Spectrum games released at its' time had worse sound effects than this game.
  6. The continue and game over screens are horribly creepy, looking like something straight out of a creepypasta. (At the time of its release, creepypastas just started striking up on the internet, but they are no longer popular today.) Same applies in most of the games by BMB.
  7. Despite Wario being mentioned in the intro, he doesn't appear anywhere in the game.
  8. Suffers from graphical issues and bugs & glitches. For example, in the second level of Egypt, after you lose a life, you are stuck in the ground, requiring jumping fast several times until you are not stuck anymore.
  9. Steals the sprites from games like Mario & Wario, Super Mario All-Stars, and other Mario games.
  10. Whenever you fall into a pit; you actually hear Mario let out a blood-curdling scream.
  11. When you break the bricks, the music turns off.

Mario 4: A Space Odyssey

  1. Has the same flaws stated as above, making it a reskin.
  2. Shorter than the previous game.
  3. It's is nothing more than a reskin of the previous game with the same music and gameplay, but with different levels, enemies, no intermission screen and with different stories, cutscenes and graphics.
  4. The title screen background for the game is stolen from the Super Mario Galaxy: Original Soundtrack album cover.
  5. The boss for the game is a modified version of Dark Star Core from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.
  6. Some of the game's cut-scenes use scenes from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, such as the shot of the Shroobs arriving in their UFOs.
  7. The game crashes when you try to buy something from its store.

The Only Redeeming Quality

  1. The soundtrack from both games is good, despite consisting of songs derived from the TFM Music Maker. In fact, one worse song is just a Super Mario Bros theme converted from a .mod file (The music/tracker file mainly used for the Amiga computers. In fact, there were far better songs than this.). Wirelex.exe, creator of Gordon Freakman (comedy mod for Half-Life 2) used it for his mod.
