Marvin Marvin is an American science fiction sitcom television series that aired from November 24, 2012, to April 27, 2013. It is the second and last TV show starring Lucas Cruikshank, best known for the Fred Figglehorn series on YouTube, which got a TV series on Nickelodeon.

Plot

Aliens coming to Earth to have a humanlike life has been a popular subject for TV comedies through the years - Mork and Mindy and ALF being two of the most popular examples. This series twists the genre with the alien being Marvin, who is sent to Earth by his parents to protect him from evil invaders on his home planet, Klooton. Marvin tries to adjust to life on Earth as a typical American teenager with the help of his new human family: older Teri, who doesn't want to be associated with her "cousin" Marvin at school, and younger Henry, a troublemaker who can be counted on to show Marvin the ropes. As one might expect, the family - which also includes parents Liz and Bob and tough-as-nails grandfather Pop-Pop - must conceal their new member's true identity from the world, including Teri's curious best friend, Brianna.

Why People Want It to Return to Klooton

1. Marvin is a very annoying, unlikable, and unfunny title character. Given he's the main character played by Lucas Cruikshank, Marvin's choice of character makes him the same as Fred, minus the high-pitched voice.
   • Though in fact, there is one scene where Marvin sucks up helium and mimics Fred's high-pitched voice, basically rehashing Fred Figglehorn in Lucas's other show.
2. The premise is a bland and unoriginal idea that's already been done far better countless times before like in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and The Iron Giant.
3. It rips off Mork & Mindy as Mork is also an alien who comes to Earth and tries to act like a normal human.
4. The plot of each episode becomes increasingly more stupid.
5. A lot of the human characters are unlikable, especially with the human family.
6. Some plot holes. Like how did Marvin's real parents not come and get him, even at the end of the only season?
   • The show was canceled quickly, so it probably was planning on showing the ending before the show was canceled.
7. It heavily relies on gross-out humor, from Marvin shooting chocolate milk out his nose and drinking his snot to eating his grandfather's toenail to Marvin claiming his hearing organs are in his butt.
   • The pilot episode alone featured a scene where Marvin vomits Froot Loops-like cereal and milk into a bowl. Thankfully, nobody ate it.
8. The title is just stupid, unoriginal, and a rip-off of Marvin the Martian from Looney Tunes.
9. An overused laugh track plays at the most unfunny lines.
10. Marvin's true alien form in live action looks like a downright disturbing and hideous version of Flik from A Bug's Life. Quinton Reviews went forth to describe him as a creature that looks like he's from the game Spore.
11. The crossover with Big Time Rush is terrible. One thing to note however is that Lucas Cruikshank appeared in BTR in the episode "Big Time Cameo", which causes plot holes in the series. It can also be theorized that if the Klerg based their disguises on Big Time Rush, Marvin would've also based his disguise on the Fred character.
12. In the episode "Toothache", there is a scene where Marvin's tooth became the size of his neck after he ate a lot of chocolate, which is quite disturbing.

Redeeming Qualities

1. At least Lucas Cruikshank doesn't use his typical Fred voice in this show.
2. Teri's best friend Brianna is the only likable character.
3. It was filmed from a live studio audience that get genuine laughs.
4. Marvin's true alien form in the animated intro and transitions were passable.
5. The sub-plot in the fourth episode was pretty good.
6. The fifth episode "Burger on a Bun" is a passable, if not decent, episode, and is perhaps the only passable episode of the show, besides the aforementioned fourth episode.
7. There are some funny moments here and there.

Reception

Like Fred: The Show, it was panned by critics and audiences alike for Marvin's annoying attitude, unlikeable characters, and unoriginality. The series was canceled after 19 episodes. The show currently holds a 2.3/10 on IMDb and a 2.2/10 on tv.com. It has a 69% audience score on Google. It is considered to be one of the worst Nickelodeon shows ever.

Trivia

• After the show got canceled after only one season, Lucas Cruikshank announced that he left Nickelodeon for good.
