McDonald's Pakistan Commercials

During 2003-2006, there were several low-budget McDonald's commercials that aired exclusively in Pakistan. These commercials/advertising are made by Image Dynamics. They were made to promote Happy Meal toys for Sonic Heroes, Crash Twinsanity, Play-doh, Strawberry Shortcake, Hello Kitty, Crush Gear, Hot Wheels, MyScene

(Congrats Pakistan 🇵🇰, you made a monstrosity that will give kids and adults nightmares. وہ کھانے کا وقت کیوں چوستے ہیں (Why They Suck Meal Time)

  1. The biggest problem with these commercials is the horrible and nightmarish character designs, which look lazily made and feel like low-budget rip-offs of the characters:
    • Cream, Amy and Rouge in the Sonic commercial look nothing like they did in the games (with Cream looking so yellow, Rouge looking more like a naked mouse, and Amy looking more like a pink Sonic with a dress), Shadow is missing his chest hair and Knuckles's quills make him look like a dog.
    • Neo Cortex has a realistic face (similar to Mega Man's on the infamous Mega Man 1 box art) and tan-colored skin instead of his usual yellow in the Crash Bandicoot commercial.
    • Hello Kitty's design looks absolutely terrible, as she barely resembles her usual design with her looking more like a woman than a young girl. It also seems that the people who designed Hello Kitty in the commercial barely knew anything about her design as she also has a large mouth in one of the commercials, but she is usually drawn without one.
      • Sure her mouth is opened in the cartoons, but the way they make it look in the commercial is ridiculous.
    • Strawberry Shortcake has arguably the worst character design in the commercials, as she looks absolutely nothing like her original self(the design is supposed to be her 2003 design) and the way she is designed in the commercial is completely lazy and absolutely hideous to look at, it's so bad that it makes the character designs in Happily N'Ever After movies and Fireman Sam since season 6 look amazing in comparison.
  2. Most of the singing in the commercials is laughable and annoying.
  3. Due to the low budget, MIDI music was used. In particular, the "I'm lovin' it" jingle is severely low-quality and is stolen from the Japanese jingle.
  4. Unprofessional narration, not helped by the fact that it was all done by one person.
  5. There was also little to no research done about any of the franchises. For example, in the Sonic commercial, Rouge's name is pronounced as "rogue", even Google Translate's Urdu voice pronounces "Rouge" right (روج).
  6. The CGI animation in these commercials is atrocious and poorly done, to the point where it looks like it was made by Video Brinquedo or Xing Xing Digital.
  7. They almost ruined McDonald's Pakistan's reputation due to the infamy of these commercials.

وہ خوبیاں جو اسے پسند کرتی ہیں (Qualities That Are Lovin' It)

  1. These commercials are "so bad, it's good" due to how it looks.
    • The Play-Doh and Bobbers commercials are probably the least bad.
  2. Some character designs are done right.
    • Crash's design looks similar to his original design, despite his mouth being a bit too big and always open.
    • Sonic also looks similar to his original design, the same can be said for Tails.
  3. The singing is one of the only good things these commercials have to offer.

Trivia

  • The awful quality of these commercials would spawn memes in later years.
