Medal of Honor: Warfighter is a first-person shooter video game developed by Danger Close Games (currently known as DICE Los Angeles) and published by Electronic Arts. It is the fourteenth installment in the Medal of Honor series, and the sequel to the eponymous 2010 reboot of the franchise. The game was released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Microsoft Windows.
Bad Qualities
- It's another generic FPS with the same graphics as Battlefield 3 despite running on the same engine, Frostbite 2.
- Lazily-written and disjointed story.
- Cliched characters.
- Beyond linear and restrictive level design.
- Dull set-pieces.
- You can take over 8 sniper rifle shots to the face while standing still.
- Many scripted sequences which you must complete or else you'll instantly die for no apparent reason. There's a level in which you must chase down a target, but what they really mean by that is run into an ambush, and he'll be waiting. Once you see him again, he'll start running. When you repeat the process enough times, the game will catch him for you in a cutscene.
- Idiotic friendly and enemy AI.
- Awful difficulty, it's too easy.
- Several bugs and glitches.
- Repetitive shooting galleries.
- The only meaningful choice you have in the game is how you open doors, leading to the nickname "Medal of Honor: Doorfighter". Regardless, the result is always the same: slow-motion shooting.
- The campaign is rather short, as it can be beaten in around 3 hours.
- It almost killed the Medal of Honor franchise.
Good Qualities
- Fireteam mechanic gives the online multiplayer mode a sense of camaraderie.
- Entertaining and inspired driving sections.
- Some of the levels are very atmospheric.
- The controls and gunplay are solid.
- Impressive visuals.
- Decent cover art.
- It came with the Battlefield 4 beta if you pre-ordered the Limited Edition (PS3 and Xbox 360) or the Digital Deluxe Edition (Origin for PC).
- The weapon sounds are solid and great.
- Good soundtrack, especially "Castle of Glass" Linkin Park.
- Passable voice acting.
Reception
The game received mixed reviews, with Metacritic scores of 53 on Xbox 360 and 55 on PC and PS3. It was also a commercial failure, leading EA to place the series on "indefinite hold" until the announcement of Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond.
Trivia
- The game was nominated for one award at the 2012 Spike Video Game Awards for Best Song in a Game for "Castle of Glass" by Linkin Park, but lost to Beck's "Cities" in Sound Shapes.
