Meg Goes to College is the eighteenth episode of the ninteenth season of the American animated television series, Family Guy.

Plot

Out of a desire to be spoiled in they're golden years, Peter and Lois fake an application to get Meg into Brown University. Meanwhile, Brian finds that he cannot catch squirrels as well as he used to, so Stewie offers to get him in shape, but his coaching proves ineffective.

Why It Rocks

  1. It has an interesting plot that has Meg go to College, which is done well for the most part.
  2. The sub-plot was also pretty good, as it’s about Brian trying to improve his stamina and speed as he’s getting older.
  3. The characters are surprisingly likable in this episode, even the flanderized ones don’t show their dark sides like they usually do.
    • Peter and Lois are likable as, while they did put Meg on a fake application, they did it so Meg could get into a college.
    • Brian is also likable in the sub plot, as he tried to exercise to be fit to chase squirrels, but then came to a realization that aging is natural, and he also made up with Stewie and stopped training with Doug after seeing how sad Stewie was, showing Brian does regret hurting Stewie’s feelings and how close their bond is, and how awesome their friendship is.
  4. The episode is filled with lots of fun moments of what college life is like.
  5. This episode also has some very funny moments, such as when Peter and Cleveland do a parody of the "Mail Time" song from Blue’s Clues, and when Peter was stuck in the Alpha Delta Pi group as they were cheering.
  6. Since there are not a lot of cutaway gags, the episode flows very well.
  7. It’s nice to see Meg be the main focus of the episode, and we were happy to see her enjoying College life.
  8. The good montage of Meg doing almost every talent listed on the fake application, which shows Meg has got great talent.
  9. Heartwarming moments in the episode, like how Brian and Stewie made up, how Meg forgave her parents before she tries to windsurf over Providence Falls, and her parents wished her luck and told her they love her.
  10. The sub-plot had an ok ending, as Brian carried Doug down the stairs, and Stewie claims victory over his rival as he slowly goes down the stairs, which is somewhat funny, and at least it’s better than the main plot’s ending.
  11. The next episode shows Meg alive and ok, meaning that Lois did call the ambulance and they saved Meg, especially when Lois showed worried about her daughter and urged Peter to call the ambulance.

Bad Qualities

  1. Some gross out and mean-spirited moments, like how Brian vomited after trying to chase a squirrel, how Brian abandoned Stewie and choose Doug as his training coach, and some Meg torture (not too much though).
  2. Doug is unlikeable in some bits, but he's alright in this episode.
  3. Bad Ending: Like most episodes of modern Family Guy, the ending of the main plot is awful, as Meg fails to windsurf, so she’s sadly out of college and now how has an undeserved admissions scandal on her school record, and to add extra salt to the wound, she is drowning. Lois tells Peter to call an ambulance in worry, only for Peter to tell Lois to do it because Peter’s phone number is blocked by 911 because of making nuisance calls to them, which shows Peter’s usual stupidity going too far to the point where he’s not even funny and is obnoxious.
