Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge (or Rockman World; ロックマンワールド in Japan) is the first handheld Mega Man game, and the first of the Game Boy Mega Man/Rockman World games. It was developed by Minakuchi Engineering and published by Capcom in 1991. It borrows Robot Masters from the original Mega Man game as well as Mega Man 2.
Plot
Insane industrial wizard Dr. Wily has revived 8 of his robot masters in another try at taking over the world.
Why It Rocks
- Hard (in a good way), as expected for a Mega Man game.
- Responsive controls.
- Good remixes of the Robot Master themes, and, unique to this game, they are new compositions that still have the old melodies. The Wily stage music is good too.
- Great graphics for a Game Boy game, as it's basically the NES graphics in monochrome.
- The difficulty of some of the Robot Masters was adjusted, like Cut Man, who was made to be a bit tougher, and Elec Man, who was made to be easier in this game.
- This game introduces the first Mega Man Killer, Enker, who appears as a boss after the last four Robot Masters are defeated. Upon defeating him, Mega Man earns a weapon from Enker, the Mirror Buster, which reflects enemy projectiles.
- There are some different set pieces in the Mega Man 1 stages that appeared in the second NES game, as well as some brand new enemies and hazards that are exclusive to this game.
- Some of the weapons from the NES games have improved, like the Time Stopper now being able to be paused during its usage.
- The game adds a Carry platform item for beating the first four Robot Masters and it can be pretty useful, especially for some of the trial and error segments in the Wily stages.
Bad Qualities
- The game is pretty short with only 6 levels, and can be beaten in under half an hour.
- Unlike the later Game Boy Mega Man games, the second set of Robot Masters do not have their own levels.
- Some cheap moments throughout the game, especially in the final level, the Wily Station.
- Unlike Mega Man 2 and later games, there are no E-Tanks to collect.
