They are truly powerful, which is why they always beat Dr. Wily each time.

Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters is a fighting game in the Mega Man series released as an arcade video game in Japan in 1996 . It is the direct sequel to Mega Man: The Power Battle released the previous year. Both games were ported to home consoles in North America in 2004 as part of the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube and in Japan during the same year as part of two game compilation titled Rockman: Power Battle Fighters (ロックマン パワーバトルファイターズ), also for the PlayStation 2.
Plot
Like The Power Battle, each character has an epilogue once the player beats the game. However, in The Power Fighters, each combination of two characters in co-op play also has their own unique epilogue. The epilogues are more detailed than those of its predecessor and have more to do with past and future Mega Man games, providing vague explanations regarding characters and canon, most notably the Evil Energy incident from Mega Man 8 and how Dr. Wily created Zero from the Mega Man X series.
Why It's A Mega Power
- The graphics are really great and vibrant, with an even sharper look than Mega Man 7, which says a lot about how good this game looks. In fact, they are even better than its predecessor on Arcade, Mega Man: The Power Battle. It can also be said that the game has a lot of details and is on par with both Mega Man & Bass and Mega Man 8.
- Tight controls: like Mega Man 7 and the X games (with the exception of X7), the characters respond extremely well, and that makes the game even more perfect than it already is.
- For the first time, you can play as Duo (from Mega Man 8, released the same year as this game), which is not only a first for a Mega Man game, but it's a cool thing for the fans of Duo who wish to play as him. He's also pretty powerful in his attack.
- The soundtrack is great, most of the musics are great remixes of the robot fighter theme in any of these games where they appear. To make things even better, some of them are more nostalgic than their original theme, such as Shadow Man or even the Dr. Wily theme (phase 1 only).
- For the only time along with Power Battle, Bass can charge his buster to make a much more powerful charge than he makes most of the time; sadly, his playstyle in these Mega Man arcade games didn't keep up for the other games where he is playable, such as Mega Man & Bass (even if his playstyle is still good).
- The ending of Bass is pretty funny. To make things better, it's revealed that Zero from Mega Man X was created by Dr. Wily (one year before Mega Man X4).
- The gameplay is very fun, and there is a lot more content than Power Battle, which helps to make this game even better and funnier.
- The game made some improvements over Power Battle, such as a better life counter, which is in the most standard way, or some more contents, such as three stories, such as the one where you have to rescue Roll, a bit more variants in the robot master, and the list goes on.
- The bosses are really challenging most of the time, and they are very fun. Keep in mind that this is a boss rush game, and there are a few on arcade, and this is one of the best, if not the best one on arcade. Dr. Wily is also very challenging (even though for some it's too difficult). In fact, this game is more challenging than its predecessors.
- The special effects are awesome, even by Mega Man and 1996 arcade game standards, as they can barely be improved due to how great they are.
- There are plenty of power-ups, and they are awesome to use, even though some of them are very overpowered.
- For Mega Man: Rush will appear
- For Bass, it's similar, but with the exception that it's Treble that appears instead of Rush.
- For Proto Man and Duo, they will become invincible.
- While it's a bit different than the usual Mega Man platformer, like Power Battle, you can copy the robots master ability, or the gameplay is the same with only the boss and not any platformer-level sections.
- The endings for each character are decent or even great, such as the one with Mega Man or Bass. The Proto-Man ending is nice too, and there are plenty of endings to get in this game.
Bad Qualities
- Most of the power-ups are overpowered, such as Bass with Treble or when both Proto Man and Duo become invincible, and you can spam your attack to the boss at their deaths easily.
- Some of the boss fights are too difficult, such as the one with Dr. Wily, which is a pain to beat (especially his second phase, as there are only 10 seconds to beat him or else he will escape)
- Some of the remixes can sound inferior to their console counterparts.
Reception
Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters receives highly favorable reviews from both critics and fans of the franchise. There are two reviews on Gamefaq about this game, and they both give it a perfect 10/10. The game also has a 4.06/5.00 rating on Gamefaq, which is higher than Power Battle, which has a 3.96/5.00 rating.
