Mega Man Soccer (released in Japan as Rockman’s Soccer) is a sports game for the Super Nintendo. It was released on February 17, 1994 in Japan and released a few months later in America. The game was developed by Sun L and published by Capcom.

Bad Qualities

  1. Sluggish and choppy controls for a late SNES game.
  2. Too much slowdown, mostly sometimes applied due to the SNES' limiations considering the game was released in 1994, but usually, the game slows down even if there are 4 sprites on screen. Even EarthBound slows down if there are a lot more sprites on-screen.
  3. Repetitive A.I. that tends to cause strange things; for example, sometimes if you stay in place with the ball in front of you, one of the enemies will constantly slide towards you, then back off for a bit, and repeat the same process. If you are winning, this is very easy to exploit and achieve a cheap victory.
  4. You can't choose more than one of the same characters to play against you.
  5. Lack of replayability: While the games does offer some other gameplay modes, none of them are great.
  6. There's no ending screen. Once you finish the game, you get booted straight back to the title screen. There are actually three endings that are in the game, but are unused for whatever reasons, suggesting Mega Man Soccer was released at a 95% of completed state before the ending would even be implemented.
  7. Terrible pacing which makes the game boring.

Good Qualities

  1. The graphics are decent even if they don't look as good as Mega Man X2 which was released the same year as this game.
  2. The soundtrack is actually good as usual with Mega Man games.
  3. There are actually three endings of the game (one on each mode and depends on which mode you play) which were planned to be in the final game. The first two endings (Championship and Tournament mode) can be seen by using Action Replay codes. Unfortunately, there is no evidence for the League mode's ending.
