Mickey Mania 7 (米奇吉鼠) is a pirated port of the SNES version of Mickey Mania: The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse, released on the Famicom. It was developed by Ei-How Yang in 1996 and is the second game that was developed for J.Y. Company.

Gameplay

The port follows the original game but it is incomplete and many sequences of levels are missing, much like the Super Mario World port made by Hummer Team. The game includes 5 stages, each one taken from the original game, divided into 10 sequences.

Why It Isn't Timeless

  1. The game is an incomplete version of the original game, since half of it, if not more, was cut due to either the console limitation or because of the developpers of the bootleg being lazy.
  2. The controls are abysmal and are a massive downgrade from the original Mickey Mania game.
    • To start with, the controls are very unresponsive since they take like half a second when jumping and sometimes you might press the jump button and Mickey doesn't jump, this is a problem for the platforming, and it result in the game being almost unplayable at times.
    • They also are very clunky, as when you move, it doesn't even feel fluid and when moving if you jump, it is even worse because it seems like the movements are limited, and due to this, it isn't that fun to play, and will make you prefer the original version of Mickey Mania, which is much better than this (of course).
    • Jumping also feel floaty, much like most bootleg released on the NES.
    • Something that make this worst is that the animation are really slow and sluggish, making the controls even more sluggish and unresponsive, as well as being more clunky.
  3. The soundtrack is a very poor compilation of remixs from the original game, since it is extremely bland, repetitive and even unbearable, this is also similar to Deadly Tower (an official game), though it somewhat sound catchy for the first few minutes.
  4. The title make no senses, since there's only one Mickey Mania game.
  5. It is extremely short, the game can be beaten in only 15 minutes, thanks to how much cut contents there are in this game compared to the original.
  6. The sound effects are very unbearable; one example would include the jump sound effect that sounds very unpleasant to the point that you might want to turn off the sound of the game, and you will heard the sound effect a lot for this bootleg.
  7. While not terrible, the graphics look quite subpar, like most bootleg, since it had washed-out colors, and sprites that were poorly ripped off from the 16-bit version, and sometime, the graphics can even be glitchy.
  8. The game can sometimes be frustrating, either due to the poor controls or because the collision detection isn't that good.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. As said in WIIT#3, the soundtrack can sound catchy, even if it is bland to listen to.
  2. The graphics are pretty good for a bootleg game, since the sprites look like the SNES version this bootleg is based on, though it isn't safe to be subpar, as stated in the WIS section.
  3. Despite how much content where cuts from the original game, it is faithful to the official Mickey Mania game, due to the levels being mostly the same, albeit with some differences.
  4. It manage to be faithful to the Mickey Mouse shorts, despite being a bootleg.

Trivia

  • This game appears to be ported from the SNES version of the original game as it includes the loading screen, animation, and music from that version between screens. However, the loading screen is considered unnecessary by many players and is a mere filler. It is also possible that the game is a port of, and meant to coincide with the release of the PlayStation version as that was released the same year and also has these features (or probably the port is loosely based off the Mega CD version).
  • In the credits, Mickey was misspelled as "Miki".
  • Upon returning to the title screen after playing a demo, the first lead square channel will be out of sync with the other channels.
