MiniMania is a SmallWorlds revival that released on August 2022, it uses the original SmallWorlds source code. Unlike their Unity version of the game made a year prior which ran decently at best on the web-browser, this version had various issues that the game didn't fix.
Why It Is A MiniMania
- Unlike most revival projects of games that shutdown that are free for the fans (ex: Club Penguin Rewritten) this game makes profit off of the original game and uses it for other purposes rather than the game.
- The game's website even claims that the game is their own work, yet it clearly isn't. As this game uses assets from SmallWorlds.
- The game is very hard to navigate for English players, as the game menus are in Portuguese. There is no English option, forcing the player to navigate the menu themselves.
- The game is missing a ton of features from the original game, such as the official missions that give the user lots of XP to level up, YouTube playback, a way to earn gold, etc.
- The game runs very terribly, it only handles 1-5 players at one space and anything over it causes the game to lag and the framerate drops to a crawl and it runs at 1-5 frames a second, and it disconnects very often.
- Microtransactions: There is no way to earn the premium currency Gold without spending any money, causing players who didn't spend any money to be made fun of by the players who spent money on the game.
- The game had a awful launch, with the servers being overloaded to the point that new players cannot create an account.
- Overall, this is not how you run a revival of a delisted/defunct game.
Redeeming Qualities
- For what it trying to, it is reviving SmallWorlds. Despite being poorly executed.
- The in-game elements are in English, meaning people can easily navigate the game just fine.
