Mission: Impossible 2 (stylized as M:i-2, or Mission: Impossible II) is a 2000 American action spy film directed by John Woo and produced by and starring Tom Cruise. The sequel to 1996 film Mission: Impossible, it is the second installment in the Mission: Impossible film series.
Plot
Chimera is a deadly virus that will bear a grisly death unless you are given the antidote. The creator of Chimera is murdered and the antidote is stolen by a disavowed I.M.F. Agent, Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott). The Impossible Mission Force, (I.M.F.), hire the skilled and charming Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), and the beautiful Nyah Hall (Thandie Newton), who has had her share with Ambrose. Their mission, should they choose to accept it, is to send Hall undercover to Ambrose and learn what she can for Hunt to bring down Chimera, but they will have to break into a secure lab by jumping off of buildings and dodging bullets. Its impossible.
Why It's Still Possible
- While not as good as the first film, it still keeps some of the source material to the series.
- The actors, especially Tom Cruise still give a great performance as Ethan Hunt like the first film.
- It's still faithful to the series, though less than the original, and the TV series.
- Decent plot twist, such as a scene where Ethan Hunt was killed by Sean Ambrose, but turns out it was person that it wasn't actually Ethan Hunt. People who like dark humor may find this scene to be a little funny.
- Han Zimmer is still amazing as a composer. The soundtrack consisted of rock/metal songs like "Take A Look Around" by Limp Bizkit, "Scum Of The Earth" by Rob Zombie, and "I Disappear" by Metallica, etc.
- Sean Ambrose is a decent villain that he attempted to release a deadly virus named Chimera and selling the cure, Bellerophon, for profit.
- The cinematography is still on the top-notch.
- Great visual effects.
- It still retains a lot of action scenes throughout the movie.
Impossible Qualities
- The plot is a bit weak, compared to the first movie, and its next installments.
- The pacing is rather slow, for the most part of this film.
- There are a few plot-holes at the beginning of the movie.
- Some of the effects look fake like Ethan Hunt climbing in the beginning.

The site's critical consensus reads, "Your cranium may crave more substance, but your eyes will feast on the amazing action sequences". Metacritic gives the film a weighted average score of 59 out of 100, based on 40 reviews, indicating "mixed or average reviews".
