Monk Little Dog is an American-French-South Korean animated shorts aired on Cartoon Network. This show premiered on June 16, 2009 to June 11, 2010.

Plot

The show focuses on Monk, a dog who suffers misfortunes while doing his duty. Once he becomes worried, his unleashes his anger with thunder.

Bad Qualities

  1. The title is somewhat confusing, and it does not include "The" in the title. It would have been included it to rename it as "Monk: The Little Dog" or Little Dog Monk if the word "The" is not included.
  2. The premise focuses on Monk who only suffer misfortunes in his routines while creating ideas to adore his friends, causing his friends to laugh or get mad at him or ignore him while they adore Ding instead; while this may be good on paper, that one counts as a bit mean-spirited.
  3. Most episodes are bad due to Monk getting tortured by something that hinders his routines, which makes him a punching bag than a main protagonist.
  4. No proper dialogue in this show, just grunts and sounds and nothing else.
  5. Some unlikable characters, such as Ding (his rival), Sushi (Kimmy's cat), Kimmy (sometimes), Ben (sometimes), etc.
    • When Monk's actions hurt his friends, they scold him for his stupidity, which is mean spirited in most cases.
  6. In most episodes, when Monk suffers misfortunes, he gets angry, in a fuel of thunder, but his life would suffer even more due to his infuriating actions.
    • His rage with thunder effects can be very annoying at times.
  7. Like Bugged, another French show from Canal+, most episodes suffer bad endings due to Monk getting misfortuned from his rage, causing his life to get ruined from that. Does it sound familiar?.

Good Qualities

  1. The concept is handled very well (the main character who creates ideas while suffering misfortunes just to adore his friends), but it is executed poorly.
  2. Monk, despite being a punching bag, Bubull, Mi-Hie, and the Tweets are the only likable characters.
    • Ben and Kimmy are also likable, but they can be mean-spirited towards Monk.
  3. Decent animation and the designs of the characters are cute.
  4. At least this show does not focus on gross-out humor.
  5. A few episodes show good endings for Monk.

Trivia

  • Monk Plays With a Boomerang is the only episode to not include Monk screaming with thunder.
  • Many episodes have the scene transition corresponding to the episode, such as Monk Hammers a Nail uses a hammer transition.
    • The Bubull kissing, ice cracking, the school of fish transitions are the only ones to feature more than one episode.
  • Monk screaming with thunder became a meme in 2020.
