“Monocycle” is the 13th episode of the 2nd season of Popee the Performer.

Plot

Popee keeps unintentionally killing people with his new monocycle while practicing an act.

Intentional Bad Qualities

NOTE: As to be expected from the show, this episode was obviously meant to be bad on purpose.

  1. Like most Popee the Performer episodes, the concept for this episode isn’t that kid-friendly for a kids’ show: Popee keeps running over people.
  2. Popee is pretty unlikable here, since he keeps running over people and after seeing their corpses, almost immediately stops feeling bad for them and stars daydreaming about performing tricks.
  3. Almost every character in this episode dies, despite being an episode of a children’s series.
  4. Ugly character designs as usual.
  5. The episode recycles animation, such as the scene where Kedamono awkwardly shakes his head in reaction to Popee running over people, and Popee laughing while daydreaming about performing tricks with his/its monocycle.
  6. It’s never explained how Alien got Popee’s monocycle.
  7. Bad ending: Alien runs over Popee, hits his head on a satellite and dies, and Kedamono’s show gets turned off because of this.

Intentional Good Qualities

  1. Kedamono’s still likable, as expected.
  2. The fourth wall break at the end is pretty creative.
  3. Popee does get run over for a brief moment when Kedamono launches his monocycle into space.
  4. The pacing is still good, as usual.
  5. Decent soundtrack as always.
  6. The anime in general is still far better than another CGI animated atrocity.
