Mortal Kombat 1 is a 2023 fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Games. It is the twelfth main installment in the Mortal Kombat series, and serves as its second reboot after Mortal Kombat (2011). The game was released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on September 19, 2023.
This page will focus on the Switch Version.
Why This Port is Krap
- Porting the game to the Switch was a massive red flag since the game skipped the PS4 and Xbox One versions due to limitations yet the game somehow came to the Switch which was much weaker and ended up with the problems below.
- Awful graphics that makes the game look like a funny SFM video on YouTube or a PlayStation 2/PlayStation 3 game than a Switch game. Even Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex looked better than this and that game was released all the way back in 2001.
- Horrible framerate that make the game completely unplayable, along with the awful controls for this port.
- Tons of glitches that affect the gameplay and even the cinematics.
- Terrible animation, with characters' heads floating around at times and look like dolls.
- Lengthy loading times, as it can take 30 seconds to load a match. In fact, they're even longer than Sonic '06 or even Mega Man X7.
- False advertising: the Switch port’s trailer shows gameplay footage from the Steam version; in fact, the trailers even have a Steam achievement appearing in the Switch gameplay trailer.
- Overpriced: It's the second Switch game to cost $70 at launch after The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (though at least the latter's a good game), which is too much for a terrible port.
- Terrible controls that are delayed and make the game even more unplayable; this is not helped by the aforementioned atrocious framerate.
- There's no reason to get this port since the Steam Deck exists and can run it much better on that platform than it does on the Switch.
The Only Redeeming Quality
- It got some patches that corrected some issues, such as the framerate being a bit better and improving the graphics. However, it's not enough to make it a good port.
Reception
While Mortal Kombat 1 received positive reviews for PC and current-gen ports, the Switch port has received overwhelmingly negative reviews with criticism for its graphics, glitches, and high price.
Many saw this as a clear sign that the Switch is starting to show its age.
