Why It Rocks
- The game returns to having blood and gore, the series' charm, especially during Fatalities, after the release of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe which came out three years before this one did since that game had to tone down the graphic violence due to the use of DC characters at the time.
- A reboot that starts the series from the beginning but doesn't ignore the rest of the games.
- It includes almost all of the memorable Mortal Kombat characters of the entire franchise!
- The fatalities are bloody and amazing.
- Stage fatalities are such a creative killing mechanism.
- Babalities are funnier than ever!
- Graphics look polished.
- The brand new X-ray moves are so brutal that it made Mortal Kombat controversial again for being violent.
- Test Your Might and Test Your Sight returns from Deadly Alliance, also introducing Test Your Strike and Test Your Luck. The Vita version also has Test Your Balance and Test Your Slice.
- Guest characters like Freddy Krueger and Kratos including an exclusive arena (exclusively in PS3 and Vita).
- The Vita version works well and has challenges exclusive to it that use the touch screen.
- Unlike most fighting games, it has an actual story mode.
- Very easy to do Kombos without the need for button mashing.
Bad Qualities
- The online servers were terrible (a problem with NetherRealm Studios' games in general). The servers for the Vita version were shut down 2 years after its release while the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC versions were shut down in March 2020 without any warning.
- The PS3 version of the Komplete Edition can freeze sometimes during launch, and with the game being removed from digital stores it's more than likely it will never be fixed, fortunately, there's a solution for it.
- You can't skip any of the cutscenes in Story Mode unless you've already beaten it.
- If you want to restart your progress in Story Mode, the only way to do that is to delete your entire save file, along with all of your Koins and stats, and create a new one.
- Due to Warner Bros.' expiration of rights for Freddy Krueger, the entire game was removed from Steam and most stores, the Vita version remains on the PS Store however.
Trivia
- Due to its content the game was banned in Australia due to the ACB not allowing games because of high-impact bloody violence. at the time, though The Komplete Edition was later rated R18+ in 2013 after the said rating was introduced.
