Mortal Kombat X is a fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios (ported in PC by High Voltage Software and later replaced by QLOC) and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

An expanded version named "Mortal Kombat XL" was later released with all the DLC packs included*.

Why It Rocks

  1. Improved visuals and graphics make the game more gory and violent, with good attention to detail when it comes to making attacks look crunchy and painful.
    • The X-ray special moves highlight this.
    • The fatalities are also improved by the added visual details.
  2. Good character roster
  3. The voice acting is great.
  4. All the characters have very cool and ornate costumes.
    • Some characters even have costumes that match the ones from the earlier Mortal Kombat games.
  5. Very nice soundtrack
  6. Despite BQ#2, the story is still fairly engaging.
  7. Each of the characters playable in this game has three different fighting variations which are fun and very interesting.
  8. Button combinations required to pull off special moves are streamlined to be easier to pull off, making the game more accessible, but at the same time, the game is still skill-intensive enough to reward veterans.
  9. Some of the new characters are memorable and amazing.
  10. The Krypt returns with some improvements including obstacles as enemies to kill with quick-time events.
  11. The brutalities are back and revamped as finishing moves are performed with one final hit with some requirements. It also introduces stage brutalities.
  12. Classic fatalities are back with DLC.
  13. While not being available from launch, the stage fatalities returned in the XL upgrade.
  14. The Kombat packs include guest characters from horror movies such as the Xenomorph from the Alien series, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, and the Predator.
  15. Jax has a skin-based and voiced by Carl Weathers to match the appearance of Predator.
    • There's an easter egg in the character selector when through picking Jax with his Carl Weathers skin and Johnny Cage with his Comando skin, there will be a reference to the Predator movie.
  16. The Klassic towers endings are great and interesting, following the style of its predecessor.
  17. Before a fight starts, the characters will interact with each other. Specific pairs of characters will also trigger special phrases during Kombat.
  18. The game introduced some great new characters like Cassie Cage, Takeda, Jacqui, Erron Black, and Kung Jin.

Bad Qualities

  1. Microtransactions for easy fatalities and other content, unless you plan on grinding through the Krypt and doing tedious amounts of fighting.
  2. The story is kind of rushed, especially the ending; moreover, some story elements suggest that when it comes to the classic characters, there's some bias towards certain ones (i.e. Raiden, the male ninjas).
    • The story mode puts Scorpion getting his revenge against Quan Chi for killing his family ahead of reverting those characters still in Revenant form back to their human forms, with them still being evil by the end of the mode.
    • Kitana's arcade ending reveals that even if Shao Khan was the one who came out on top in Armageddon, some fighters (including Kitana herself) would eventually survive and defeat him, with the events of the new timeline only happening to allow Raiden to be the one who eventually defeats Shao Khan (at the cost of the lives of most of the other heroes).
  3. Important absence of some characters, a great example being Jade who didn't even get any mention in the story mode.
  4. New players fighting online will stand no chance against the pros, which feels more like fighting against maximum-difficulty bots.
  5. Baraka, Rain, and Sindel return but just as non-playable characters with recycled movement sets from MK2011.
    • Tanya did get the same fate until the Kombat Pack 2.
  6. Some interaction phrases before the matches are repeated, especially with the DLC characters.
  7. Some of the attack animations are bad.
  8. The game didn't get a great treatment in PC.
  9. The XL version doesn't include Blue Steel Sub-Zero, Krimson Ermac (both being recolored versions of the Golden Scorpion skin), Kosplay Cassie, and Kosplay Jacqui skins.
    • They are free through XL though so you can download them.
  10. While still beautiful, the female characters from the past games in the franchises had their sexiness toned down in this one.
  11. This game introduced D'Vorah, one of the worst characters in Mortal Kombat history.
