Synopsis

Blackfire pays a surprise visit to her sister, Starfire, saying she wants to spend some quality time with her. The other Titans think that Blackfire is playing another one of her tricks, but Starfire is sure that this time Blackfire is serious about reviving their sisterly love.

Why It Broke Its Butt

  1. Dumb, misleading title: The episode has nothing to do with butts but about Blackfire’s visit, though the title comes from Blackfire sexualizing Robin’s butt, which was only in one scene never plays a central role in the story.
  2. This episode insults the original Teen Titans episode, "Sisters", which also happened to be about Blackfire visiting and sort of rehashes plot elements from the episode. Except that in the original series' episode, the sisters actually do get along.
  3. The beginning with Starfire gardening is very unnecessary and can be cut out as it does nothing but pad the runtime out.
  4. The bit where Starfire announces that Blackfire is visiting goes on too long because the Titans talk about how much they love surprise visits.
  5. Plot hole: Blackfire is supposed to be Starfire’s older sister, but in the flashback, they appear to be the same age. (Blackfire even states that Starfire was 5 in the flashback) Blackfire should be a little taller than Starfire.
  6. Blackfire visits and we get a montage of them having fun, however, part of the montage is inappropriate because there’s a scene where Blackfire dresses Starfire like her, and we get a censor bar over Starfire’s nude body.
  7. The Cyborg saying that Blackfire needs school supplies for sister school is unnecessary.
  8. Starfire as an escaped prisoner is too jarring to look at.
  9. The other Titans dressed as Starfire is too cringey.
  10. Given this is the season 2 premiere, it was a bad way to start season 2.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The stock image of a dog when Robin talks about innocence is actually cute.
  2. At least Blackfire tried to become a better person.
  3. The fight between Starfire and Blackfire is fun.
  4. Good ending: Starfire and Blackfire made amends.
