Plot

After Eustace ignores Muriel's attention by watching TV and newspaper, she mutes herself, causing Courage to worry about her voice. In order to resolve this conflict, Shirley summons a giant starfish to recover Muriel's voice.

Why It's Muted

  1. This episode shows how Eustace is extremely unlikable to Muriel when the latter tells the former to buy vinegar, showing that he cares about newspapers and TV often.
  2. This is somewhat a Courage torture episode.
  3. The first act is mean-spirited and it shows not only to the first pointer, but also to Muriel refusing to tell Courage while paying her sitar.
  4. Dr. Vindaloo is a pointless character, despite being part of a plot where he tells Courage that the only way to resolve muted Muriel is magic, as he is only there to pull his hair out of his body.
    • Di Lung and the clown are also pointless in this episode.
  5. On top of that, him ripping the tape to remove his body hair is painful to watch.
    • His body hair is also disgusting to look at.
  6. The scene where Eustace hits the door and blames it before leaving the farmhouse is mean-spirited.
  7. Once Courage tells Muriel that the Giant Starfish destroys Nowhere just to recover her voice, Eustace interrupts by shouting "Will you put that stupid hippy music, I'm trying to watch TV!", causing her to play sitar and not speak.
  8. The title card is badly butchered as the background is photoshopped with a navy blue tinted field background along with the Arial text, rather than making a unique title card or it containing a somewhat transparent Muriel face with musical notes on it.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Courage, Muriel, and Shirley are likable characters in this episode.
  2. Courage pooping the 14 Kart Golden Egg is a hilarious scene and it happens twice.
  3. The scene where Shirley tells Courage that Muriel will speak while playing her golden saxophone is a good scene.
    • When Courage attempts a sacrifice for the starfish, he shouts "MURIEL!" to Muriel, causing her to speak and hugs him, which is a nice scene.
  4. Good Ending: After Muriel speaks again, she warns Eustace to listen properly with Courage putting tape in Eustace's mouth as a punishment for refusing to buy vinegar in the opening scene.
