Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3, known in Japan as Naruto: Narutimate Hero 3 (ナルト- ナルティメットヒーロー3, Naruto: Narutimetto Hīrō 3), is the third installment of the fighting game series Naruto: Ultimate Ninja released for the PlayStation 2. Developed by CyberConnect2 and published by Bandai Namco. It was released on December 22, 2005.

Why It Rocks

  1. Awesome and very tight controls.
  2. Lots of characters. It has 42 characters in total, which was the largest character roster upon release and is the third largest character roster in the history of the Ultimate Ninja series.
  3. The Ultimate Ninja Jutsu is still great to look at.
  4. Great music that it really faithful to the anime counterparts.
  5. Awesome plot, this plot is really faithful to the manga and there's no filler at all.
  6. Sound effects are just great.
  7. It has UNT Naruto & Second State Sasuke.
  8. Excellent FMVs that still hold up well today.
  9. Wonderful cel-shaded graphics, especially in comparison to Ultimate Ninja 2.
  10. Great voice acting from the cast of Naruto.
  11. You play as Naruto in Master Road mode, and yes, this is the first Naruto games that has open-world on it.
  12. There is a decent amount of depth in the gameplay.
    • Early matches are based around chakra management and escaping combos, which can drain your meter fast.
    • You can do tons of combos with both melee and jutsu, used with abilities present in the series.
    • Jutsu canceling opens up to some great combos.
  13. The Ultimate Jutsu are just cool. They were in the previous game but expanded upon in this one.
  14. You have the ability to use other character's normal jutsu (not their Ultimate Jutsus) when you play as them in the versus mode.
  15. Much like other Naruto games, this game had a cool box art that could almost pass as a Naruto movie poster.
  16. Decent graphics for 2005 standards, although they have a flaw.

Bad Qualities

  1. While the FMV graphics are pretty great, the in-game graphics hasn't aged well compared to most of the Naruto games on the PS2.
  2. While the story that follows the anime and manga is pretty good, the story that they created for the game isn't too interesting.
  3. It can be really hard and frustrating to pull off a substitution jutsu because your timing on the button has to be absolutely perfect and even then sometimes it doesn't work.
