Naruto Shippūden: Legends: Akatsuki Rising is an adventure game for the PlayStation Portable created by Namco Bandai Games America. The game is the "sequel" to Naruto: Uzumaki Chronicles 2.

Bad Qualities

  1. Extremely poor graphics for the PSP. Other games that came out before it like the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes games look way better.
  2. Terrible and extremely loose controls. Your character sometimes will feel clunky and unresponsive.
  3. Repetitive combat system. Most of the time you just mash buttons and hope for the best.
  4. Incredibly poor animations. One of the most notable examples is Naruto’s Odama Rasengan, which looks extremely poor and looks more like a poor slideshow of images.
  5. Some of the missions are incredibly infuriating, like the Retake the Towers mission. In that mission there are two towers and you need to take them. Both towers are connected but you have to go to each one to complete it. Each tower is also across from each other and it is very long. That mission is extremely boring, fustrating and bad.
  6. Terrible enemy levels. There is occasionally a level 30 bird in the leaf village and there are centipedes that are level 10 and will kill you in 2 hits.
  7. Boring and repetitive gameplay that gets old and tiresome real fast.
  8. Some of the characters feel either unfinished or overpowered.
  9. The soundtrack, while really good, can be weird in some cutscenes, like where it plays a happy tune during the part where Naruto finds out that Gaara is dead. Why would it play a happy tune during a sad scene.
    • Also, it reuse some of the soundtrack from the Uzumaki Chronicles games, such as the menu theme from the first game.
  10. Some of the levels can feel unfair as well at times.
  11. You have to do tons of grinding in this game to beat most of the enemies and bosses. Grinding is not fun in this game.
  12. Poor level design, especially the Retake The Towers mission, which has been known to be extremely confusing since both towers are connected, and the game doesn't tell you that.

Good Qualities

  1. The story is still good as it follows the Kazekage rescue mission story. It is also the only game in the Uzumaki Chronicles series to tell the original story and not a game-exclusive one.
  2. The voice acting is great. You can switch between Japanese and English voices.
  3. Really good soundtrack that sounds like it came straight out of the anime.
  4. There are a decent amount of playable characters for a PSP game.
  5. The game can be fun at times.
  6. You can play as Itachi, Kisame, Deidara and Sasori, so the box doesn't lie.
  7. Sai, Yamato and Sasuke are playable characters in this game, despite them not appearing until later on.
  8. The sequel, Naruto Shippuden Legends: Kizuna Drive is a huge improvement. It has better graphics, more characters, better gameplay and a longer story.

Reception

The game received mixed to negative reviews. Despite the poor reception, the game sold really well and was enough to warrant a sequel in the form of Naruto Shippuden: Kizuna Drive.
