New Adventures of Megaman was a Capcom-licensed Brazilian Mega Man comic book developed by Estúdio PPA (PPA Studio, PPA standing for "Peixoto Produções Artísticas"/"Peixoto Artistic Productions") and published by Editora Magnum between 1996 and 1998, spanning 16 issues. The first five issues were written by José Roberto Pereira. Sérgio Peixoto Silva was the editor-in-chief and writer of issue 6 and Orlando Tosetto Jr. wrote from number 7 up to 16, the last one. Daniel HDR and Érica Awano were among the artists that worked in the comic book series. Besides the classic video game characters, the series introduced several original characters.
Plot
After the infamous Dr. Wily had been imprisoned, governments all over the world decided to dispose of all outdated robots. Dr. Light decided to save Mega Man and Roll using his last resources, hiding them in energy capsules, where they would upgrade in sleep mode. A large Japanese company then released a new line of androids known as the "Neo-Mavericks", said to be far more intelligent, independent and self-sustainable. Unfortunately, Dr. Wily created an army of Neo-Mavericks to take over the world.
Why It Mega Sucks
- The story has many plot holes and/or continuity errors.
- Very poor grasp of the source material. In fact, the creators had little knowledge about Mega Man and never played the games.
- It's filled with blood, nudity, and swearing, which doesn't fit in the Mega Man franchise at all.
- Adding to the previous point, almost everyone is sexually attracted to Roll for some reason, including Mega Man!
- Amateurish art designs that are inconsistent.
- Not only that; Mega Man on the cover of The Hero Awakens almost looks like Sonic the Hedgehog because of his eyes.
- The story ends on a cliffhanger which was never resolved.
- The character of Princess/Princesa, a blatant Mary Sue whose only purpose was to bash the American comics industry as well as Mega Man itself.
- On top of all that, it was completely unnecessary to bash the American comics industry anyway.
Redeeming Qualities
- Princess/Princesa was permanently written out of the comic after the original writer was fired for attempting to have her kill off the entire cast.
- Some of the art designs are decent.
