Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is a Nintendo Switch game based on the Nintendo Entertainment System competitions in the Nintendo World Championships. It is a loose sequel to the NES Remix games based on the games based on the NES. It was released on July 18, 2024 worldwide.
Why NES Deserves the Crown like Fall Guys Did
- After nearly a decade, the NES games made a huge comeback, now focusing on speedruns, not causality like the NES Remix games.
- Players can (not entirely) fully play NES games using this game, unlike the Nintendo Switch Online NES games where they have to be bought with a plan until it expires.
- Speedrun Mode is based on the NES Remix games, where players have to play certain tasks to finish them. When players finish quickly, they can grant coins, the higher the rank, the more coins they claim.
- World Championships focus on the skills of the players similar to Speedrun Mode, but can be played for a limited time to get rankings.
- Survival Mode is based on other tourneys and Fall Guys, and just like other modes, it can played by speedrunning while facing other opponents online.
- It has been split into two divisions: The Silver Division, where players can play easier difficulty challenges, and the Gold Division, where players can play challenging difficulty challenges.
- The Legendary Trial mode plays only legend challenges after players complete all of them in Speedrun Mode. This can also give records in this mode after playing all thirteen legend challenges.
- Players can customize the icon in the Players Icons mode while they can customize the titles/phrases and their favorite games using the settings.
- Some titles are hilarious to look at.
- Pins can be unlocked when players play challenges in Speedrun Mode by reaching A rank or higher.
Bad Qualities
- Sadly there are only 13 NES games to play and none of them have content, such as Tetris, Clu Clu Land, Urban Champion, Pinball, the NES sports games, and even Wrecking Crew.
- Similar to Super Mario 3D All-Stars, none of the challenges have different gimmicks, unlike the NES Remix games. To be fair, it is based on the NES World Championships in real life, not a game that focuses on gimmicks or interferences.
- Players can unlock all challenges by buying them with coins instead of unlocking them after playing the challenges.
Trivia
- The game has some loose references to Fall Guys, examples are the box art and the intro.
