No More Heroes is a beat 'em up video game originally developed by Grasshopper Manufacture for the Nintendo Wii in 2007 for Japan and 2008 in other regions and was published by Ubisoft.
It would receive a sequel in 2010 entitled No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle.
Why It Rocks
- Radical cel-shaded art style.
- The game has loads of references to Star Wars, anime, and pop culture.
- Awesome voice acting.
- Great music.
- Very enjoyable combat.
- Travis’s weapon, the beam katana can seriously take down ten enemies at once with a single attack. Travis also has wrestling moves that he can use to take out enemies.
- You don't swing the Wii Remote to swing the beam katana. You swing the Wii Remote when you're doing finishers and press A to swing the katana when you're lowering an enemy's health.
- Blood randomly sprouts everywhere in a cool but unrealistic manner.
- Funny dialogue.
- A simple premise somehow leads to one of the most original stories and plots of video gaming.
- It is a Mature-rated game for the Nintendo Wii.
Bad Qualities
- The Open Hub World is washed out, lifeless & Kinda glitchy making it feel as if you're playing an unfinished GTA Game with flaws such as:
- Travis moves pretty slow & he can't run any faster.
- The NCPs are mindless as they completely ignore you on foot, you can't attack them for fun (unless you use your motorcycle) & they can be pushed around very easily.
- The Controls for the Motorcycle are bizarre since if you accelerate briefly after reversing, your motorcycle does a wheelie & accelerates immediately. You can also crash and fall off easily.
- Bad Collision Detection. There are times when you see a car glitch through the road facing upwards or downwards.
- A tedious optional quest that involves you searching for Lokilov Balls to learn new techniques, much like the search for packages in Grand Theft Auto III. Though not as bad as you can use a map & the overworld is much smaller than that game.
- The Japanese & European Versions are Censored though the Switch Version appears to be Uncensored Worldwide.
