Plot

After a group of aliens called the Brainlings kidnap all of Earth's adults, a ragtag group of kids join forces to get them back.

Oh No! It Sucks, And Here's Why

  1. The CGI animation is very cheap and choppy looking to the point that it looks unbelievable for a Nelvana CGI series, with poorly detailed textures and laughably low-quality graphics. It also looks creepy at times, just look at one of Nate's expressions here, have fun sleepin' tonight, ga hyuck
  2. The character designs are mediocre and ugly looking and they look like they were stolen from other media. For example:
    • All of the characters look like Fanboy & Chum Chum, Psychonauts (although the latter of the game was positively received), Rated A for Awesome, Endangered Species, and League of Super Evil rejects (though ironically, LOSE and this show were both made by the same people).
    • The Brainlings look nothing like aliens at all; they look more like jellybeans with brains floating in their heads.
    • Not to mention the art style and background designs look low-budgeted, clunky, and poor as they look like they just came straight from a low-quality Playstation 2 or Wii U video game than an actual television series.
  3. Unlikable and dull characters like Nate, Shakes, Lily, Dan the Man, Tick, Flea, and Emperor Brainlius III.
    • Speaking of Emperor Brainlius III, he is the worst character in the entire series, as he is a very dumb villain who acts like a total crybaby when he doesn't get his way like in the episode "The Brainling Book of Records", where he keeps on crying all because Jumbo Ninja beat his world record. He is also shoehorned in episodes that don't focus on him. He also gives Dr. Dirk Spamflex from Fleabag Monkeyface's catchphrase "I want my TV show back!" and Caillou from Seasons 1-3 a run for their money.
    • S.W.E.E.T. can be somewhat unlikable at times as they keep on bothering Briiian for no reason and they barely have common sense in most episodes. A good example comes from the episode "Brain Flu" where they go to the Brainlings' hotel so they can spread their germs on Briiian so they can get better and, in the episode, "Calling Mr. Crash" where they purposely try to get Mr. Crash to land on Earth so he can scare the Brainlings away and make the Brainlings release their parents. Not to mention they just get off scot-free with their actions just because of Briiian's evil and he deserves it.
  4. Lazy and laughable names for many of the characters, such as Shakes, Tick, Flea, Mr. Crash, Turret, and Scoops.
  5. The premise sounds like a rip-off of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius because it's about aliens kidnapping adults.
  6. The series tends to try way too hard to be funny, but just ends up coming as cringeworthy and unfunny mainly with the toilet humor this show has. Speaking of...
    • It also tends to overuse gross-out humor, especially in episodes like "Brain Flu". Examples:
      • In the episode, "Diary Drama", there is a close-up shot of Emperor Brainlius' rotten teeth.
      • In the episode, "Space Trash", there is a scene with Shakes with crusty feet.
      • In the episode, "Raiders of the Lost and Found", there is a scene where Dan mentions that Emperor Brainlius ate cheese spray off his butt-crack. Thankfully, this was done off-screen.
      • In the episode, "Night of the Werevambies", there is a scene where Emperor Brainlius smells his stinky feet.
      • In the episode, "Going Viral", there is a scene where Turret sneezes on the ground.
    • As previously mentioned above, the entirety of the episode "Brain Flu" involves S.W.E.E.T. having to sneeze on the Brainlings just so they could get better.
  7. While the voice acting is decent, it can be rather annoying and dreadful at times as the characters shout their lines all the time.
  8. The series' writing is horrible, and it has a good number of bad-to-mediocre episodes. Examples include, but are not limited to:
    • "Operation Dress-Up" (depending on your view)
    • "Brain Flu"
    • "My Fair Ladyling"
    • "Dan the Man"
    • "The Switcheroo
    • "Aliens in the Bunker" (depending on your view)
    • "The Brainling Book of Records"
    • "Calling Mr. Crash"
    • "Smell Mart" (depending on your view)
    • "Artsy Fartsy"
    • "Joy Ride"
    • "Hiccups"
    • "The Boogieguard"
    • "Brianullus III-IV-V"
    • "Food Court"
    • "Swell Mart, P.D"
    • "Dance Craze"
    • "Stink Mouth"
    • "The Belly Bag" (which ended the show on a cliffhanger and a bad note)
  9. Like Sidekick, there is no sign of character development as the characters keep on getting worse.
  10. In a similar fashion to Kyle from Fanboy & Chum Chum, Briiian's cliche of being treated like dirt is insulting, turning him into a Butt-Monkey, a character who gets hurt by everybody in the show for little-to-no reason other than comedy. A good example comes from the episode "Artsy Fartsy" where he gets kicked out of the gallery thanks to S.W.E.E.T.
  11. The show is highly hyperactive as there is never a moment where the characters speak without screaming every word they say which can give viewers a headache.
  12. The show ended on a cliffhanger. S.W.E.E.T. was supposed to save their parents and defeat the Brainlings, but the outcome was never resolved when the series was canceled, thus making the entire show pointless.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. It does have some funny moments like when Shakes used the word spank instead of flank in "Bak 2 School".
  2. Some characters are likable like Turret, Scoops, Louie, Jumbo Ninja (despite not having a single line of dialogue), Briiian, and Dash.
  3. Some good episodes here and there, such as:
    • "Bak 2 School" (a decent way to start the series)
    • "No Boys (or Aliens) Allowed"
    • "The Shakedown"
    • "Briiian Mart"
    • "The Great Escape"
    • "Brainlings on Ice"
    • "Oh Yes!"
    • "Brainlings on Parade"
    • "Super Jumbo Ninja"
    • "Bandemomium"
  4. Although the plot does sound like a rip-off of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, the plot does sound interesting despite the potential being wasted, and it does sound interesting for a cartoon.
  5. The voice acting is decent, despite being rather annoying and dreadful at times.
  6. The CGI animation does look decent in some scenes.
  7. It does have good morals like in "Raiders of the Lost and Found", where Nate says, "If someone betrays you once, you should probably not trust them three more times".

Reception

The series was met with negative reviews. It currently holds a 3/10 rating on IMDb.
