"Onpu's Mail is a Love Letter" is the 48th episode from Ojamajo Doremi.
Plot
After a bunch of Onpu fanboy's receive mysterious letters from her that she claims she didn't write, it's up to the Ojamajo to solve this mystery and try to convince Onpu to help them.
Why It Doesn't Deserve Any Love Letters
- The main problem of this episode is that not only does the main girls aren't even the main protagonists here and it is rather another character from the class named Nakata, which is one of the worst character of the show for many reasons (see below).
- Nakata is an extremely bad protagonist and is the reason of why this episode suck and how much critisms he got from the fans as not only does he is way too much of a Onpu fanboy to the point of treating her like she the perfect person to exist (and not in a good way, mind you) and for being mean and jealous.
- Not to mention that when he found out that the mails "Onpu did write" were not her but rather her fairy, he's goes completely crazy and even want to throw his CD of her, which is incredibly mean-spirited even by Ojamajo Doremi standards.
- In fact that scene is easily the absolute worst to come from this episode and is one of the worst moment of the whole season.
- Hell, even Doremi and her friends tell him that it's way mean to Onpu but he doesn't care until that Doremi finally manage to tell him that it's wrong what he does.
- In fact that scene is easily the absolute worst to come from this episode and is one of the worst moment of the whole season.
- Not to mention that when he found out that the mails "Onpu did write" were not her but rather her fairy, he's goes completely crazy and even want to throw his CD of her, which is incredibly mean-spirited even by Ojamajo Doremi standards.
- It is simply a torture episode for Onpu, as her fanboys does get to her way too much and there's over possibly 50 peoples who want the autograph of Onpu.
- In addition, it is the only torture episode for Onpu in the whole season 1, and it's easily the worst torture episode of season 1 so far.
- While true, other good episodes like the first one might be torture episode for Doremi, at least those episodes still had a full plot that is not just torture but rather a story of being a witch, here howewer there's nothing with those kind of plots.
- Barely any forms of magics are used, which is unnaceptable for a Ojamajo Doremi episode, especially that the main genre of the series is a magical girl show.
- In fact, it take very long to see Doremi and her friends using magics, meaning that this episode isn't even faithful to the series formula.
- In fact, even "Majo Rika Goes to Kindergarten" had more magics than here even despite the fact that the episode focused on Pop in the times where she wasn't a witch yet.
- So many terrible moments that are either mean-spirited or even downright boring, especially the fanboys who all wait for Onpu, which made her almost running away from her responsabilities, or even the moment where Doremi and Aiko are desguised as the guards of Onpu, but get chased by the fanboys.
- The scene where Nakata stop to love Onpu just because of her errors with the computer things is just incredibly mean-spirited and extremely hard to watch, and is likely the worst moment from the whole season 1, as not only does it is mean-spirited but it also drag on for too long.
- And not to mention that if it wasn't for Doremi, then he would forever hated Onpu, just for a freaking computer error!
- It give a nonsensical message that if you're a celebrity, then you must respond to all emails, while yes you can't respond to all of them if you get a ton of them, you're not forced to respond and you can still skip, this is also one of the few bad morals of the show, which is once again surprising because this show is know to had lot of amazing morals.
- Plot Hole: When all the boys said that she said that they love them, how can they don't know that something wasn't right because she would never love more than 10-30 boys at once.
- As a result of Doremi and her friends not being the true protagonists of the episode, it even feel more like a fanfiction episode that is not mean to exist rather than a normal Ojamajo Doremi episode.
- The ending could have been good but it was ruined by the fact that due to Nakata not being a good character at all, see him being kindly responded by Onpu make him a karma houdini, even though Onpu may not been aware of Nakata being a jerk to her just for the mail errors.
Redeeming Qualities
- Doremi, Hazuki, Aiko and Onpu are still likable character as usual, and Doremi even tell that Nakata attitude when he found out that Onpu did an error is wrong.
- Nakata also redeem himself in the end where he know that he screwed up by being mean when Onpu did an error.
- Despite being a poor ending due to IDDALL#10, it could still be seen as a good ending for some, even if Nakata was such an unlikable asshole.
- Good animation and voice acting as usual.
- At least the amount of torture Onpu received wasn't as bad as some other terrible episodes from this show, such as for Doremi in some other episodes.
Reception
This episode was not well received by fans of the show and is called one of the worst episode of not only season 1 but also one of the worst episode of the whole series,
Trivia
- Nakata's poster of Onpu uses her official art image for the series.
