"Open Wide and Say Aaagh!" is the fourth episode in season 6 and the 144th overall episode of The Fairly OddParents.
Plot
Timmy needs his tonsils removed, and has to spend time at the hospital with Vicky as his nurse. Will he escape from Vicky and find Cosmo and Wanda before it's too late?
Why It Hurts
- It's literally an 11-minute long malicious Timmy Turner torture episode.
- This episode signifies the start of Vicky's flanderization, where her role as the evil babysitter is taken to an extreme. Beyond her wish to painfully extract Timmy's tonsils, Vicky also aspires to perform a "twerpectomy" on Timmy, essentially stripping him of his will to live.
- Timmy's parents are equally culpable, as they appear to be fully cognizant of the nature and implications of the aforementioned surgery. In exchange for permitting such an act upon their son, the Turners receive a five-night stay in Hawaii as compensation, demonstrating the extent of their foolishness and neglect.
- There are many plot holes throughout the episode:
- If Timmy had wished for Cosmo and Wanda to heal his tonsils, why didn't they do so immediately instead of disguising themselves first?
- Timmy could have wished his tonsils away at the start, which would have prevented the events of the episode from unfolding.
- Crocker appeared at the beginning of the episode looking fine. Later on, he’s seen broken, with no explanation as to what happened to him.
- Every single doctor apparently has performed a, "twerpectomy", and they don't see it as murder.
- How was Vicky able to become a nurse without attending medical school, and what motivated her to pursue nursing despite already having a job in babysitting? This reflects the writer's lack of creativity in placing Vicky in novel situations to harm Timmy.
- Poof is abruptly written out of the episode when Wanda, believing tonsillitis to be contagious, hastily sends him to Mama Cosma for safety, and he does not reappear for the remainder of the episode.
- Very annoying running gags, such as Timmy's dad looking for free food, pretending to be sick, and his butt being called a, "full moon".
- Bad ending where after Timmy finally wishes for his tonsils out, he and his fairies are chased away by the doctors, while Timmy's dad's, "gallbladder surgery", is finished, which is gross, nonsensical, and unfunny.
- It had even sent out 2 bad and horrible morals to Vicky's amusement showing that if you are sick, injured from a crash, have a sprained ankle, foot or leg or any other accident is by proving that removing your will to live by dying and trying to kill yourself and others is okay and keeping your will to live is wrong, but it turns out the real bad moral shows that it is wrong to go to the hospital to see the doctor and letting your child suffer is okay. Which is not true in reality.
- This episode serves as a rehash to "The Flintstone Comedy Show" episode "Be Patient, Fred" as the operation in that episode was handled much better than here.
- Speaking of the idiot parent trope, Timmy's parents are partially to blame for allowing their son to almost get murdered by Vicky in a hospital through decapacitation, which could land the both of them along with Dr. Snipowitz in jail and also Vicky into Juvenile hall as it is against the law to impersionate a nurse and commit attemtped murder on hosipital ground.
- Mr. Crocker had no purpose to the episode but filler.
- As mentioned in "WHY IT HURTS #2", this episode turned Vicky into a Nickelodeon rip-off of Sideshow Bob who is constantly trying to kill Bart by becoming a licensed attempted murder machine.
Redeeming Qualities
- "Hey, my throat doesn't hurt! I'm cuuured!"
- Cosmo and Wanda get their comeuppance for not removing the tonsils sooner, at the end of the episode.
- Vicky also gets her comeuppance, as well.
- While this is pretty generic and also mentioned on many other pages on the New Qualitipedia site as well as several other pages on the original old Qualitipedia pages, Timmy and Poof (despite being a minor role) is still likable here as usual.
- Thankfully Dr. Snipowitz never appeared again after this episode on the count that he was later arrested and had been sent to prison for assisting Vicky off-screen.
