Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 is a maze video game developed and published by Bandai Namco. This game serves as a sequel to Pac-Man Championship Edition.

Why The Ghosts Should Be Afraid

  1. Once again, the graphics stay true to the theme the predecessor is aiming for. Nothing but colorful eye-candy graphics. What else is there to talk about with graphics like these? Not to mention how eye-popping they are.
  2. The gameplay and controls are still fun also maintaining the original maze game that Pac-Man is usually known for. Also keeps the gameplay introduced in the previous Championship Edition games which added fast-paced gameplay to Pac-Man as well as the ghost trail.
  3. Awesome soundtrack. The soundtrack is so awesome that the number of songs increased this time around thus resulting in some awesome songs to listen too including Pac Sky Emotion, Pac Twin Attack, Pac Terror, Pac Jump Up!, Pac is Pac, Horinesian Sundance, Pac Oi Oi Oi, Pac Madness, Pac Tronica, Pac Toy-Box, and Pac Step.
  4. Unlike previous maze adventures Pac-Man has gone through, touching ghosts will NOT kill Pac-Man in a snap. Instead, the ghost will be bumped into up to three times in succession before they enter an Angry state that can legit kill Pac-Man.
  5. Jump Pads are added there. Pac-Man can use these to jump over large parts of a maze as a method of travel.
  6. There are two main modes for this game. Allow us to demonstrate them like this.
    • Score attack: You have to try to rack up a high score with a time limit. You know, it's like an arcade-style mode somehow.
    • Adventure mode: You just need to clear several objects including having to fight against bosses which are new to the game.
  7. Visual styles make a return to the sequel. You know what to do right? You can mix and match the visuals just like in previous games. In fact, you can get skins based on Dig Dug and Galaga
  8. The bombs from previous games make a return. While they are limited in supply, they do help Pac-Man return to the maze unlike DX and DX+.
  9. every time you eat a line of ghosts or defeat a boss, the presentation feels so satisfying to watch. You know how much work it was put into this. It's almost dramatic to the point where it will feel epic even for Pac-Man standards.
  10. You can change the camera in this game. Depending on the camera, the maze will be positioned differently just for your desire.
  11. The Nintendo Switch version has an exclusive co-op mode called Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus which adds a multiplayer version of the game. Player one would control the yellow Pac-Man while player 2 can control the blue Pac-Man. Same rules but the player one and two Pac-Men would need to eat the bonus fruit together. Should one of them get caught by a ghost, you will have a chance to save the other player.
  12. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game include 3 retro games from the Arcade Games Series line of downloadable Namco arcade games. The only games you will get are the original Pac-Man, Galaga, and Dig Dug. However, to get these games from Championship Edition 2, the actual game itself needs to be a retail disc.

Bad Qualities

  1. The fact that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game have exclusive 3 games for the retail version of the game can come off as nostalgia pandering despite the 3 games being good. Not to mention that those bonus games are exclusive to the PS4 and Xbox One versions. Though the Switch version does have Namco Museum Arcade PAC which includes more arcade games like Sky Kid and Splatterhouse.
  2. Multiplayer is only exclusive on the Switch version.
  3. Some may find adventure mode a bit too frustrating as you got to make certain scores to advance to a certain level.

Reception

This game got "generally favorable" reviews on Metacritic with the Nintendo Switch being the highest as it stands on 80/100. Nintendo life gave the game a 7.4.
