Palworld is an action-adventure, survival, and monster-taming game created and published by Japanese developer Pocket Pair, it launch early access January 19, 2024.
While the PC and PS5 version is very well-received, the console versions for the Xbox One and Series X/S are an entirely different story. So this article would focus on that version.
Bad Qualities
- It's clear that the developer never tested these versions before release, as it suffers from various issues.
- In fact the Xbox One version suffers the most issues compared to the X/S version, as it crashes and lags more often.
- The performance overall on the Xbox One version is also terrible, with the frame rate dropping down to 16 fps and pop-in texture issues are everywhere.
- Despite the updates, players have reported that the updates make the game crash more often on these consoles.[1] Sound familiar?
- It suffers from a lot of bugs and glitches that the PC version doesn't have, such as the game crashing randomly at certain points, the player going into a T-pose at random while gliding, and various others.
- Terrible-looking graphics that look like a PlayStation 2 game rather than a Xbox One and Series X/S title, and it looks like a huge downgrade from the PC version. Heck, even Bomberman Generation look better than these ports despite being released in 2002, which is 23 years before this game.
- Awful sound quality for these versions as it's very compressed and sound like a Nintendo 64 game at certain points.
- Dungeons and caves will only last a few minutes before the game crashes, making them unplayable.
- This also make these ports pretty much unplayable and they are sadly the only versions that you can play on console (up until the game got ported onto the PlayStation 5 on September 24, 2024).
- Due to the issues, these versions of the game are mostly unplayable, and as a result players who would want to play the game would have to stick with the PC version or pay monthly for Xbox Gamepass Ultimate to stream the PC version just to play on their consoles.
Good Qualities
- At least it's nice that you can play the game on console, but unfortunately these ports are bad and almost unplayable.
- If you don't go in caves and dungeons, and catch pals outside of these areas, the game is playable without crashing issues.
- The PS5 version has better optimization than these versions.
- Thankfully, this game had been patched, despite the port still not being as good as the other versions.
Reception
Unlike the PC version which received positive reviews, these ports were panned by players due to the issues of these ports, terrible graphics, and poor sound quality.
Despite bad optimization and other issues, the console version sold well (though not as much as the PC version), accumulating over 7 million players on February 1.
