Papa Louie 2: When Burgers Attack!

Papa Louie: When Pizzas Attack! (or simply Papa Louie) is a 2006 platform game developed and published by Flipline Studios. It is the first Papa Louie video game to be made, and is the first installment in the Papa Louie platforming series.

A successor titled Papa Louie 2: When Burgers Attack! was released on June 5, 2013. Nearly 7 years after the release of this game.

Why We Liberate Papa Louie's Customers

  1. It marks the debut of the entire Papa Louie franchise, one of the most popular (and also iconic) Flash game series's ever made. As mentioned above, it even managed to spawn a sequel titled Papa Louie 2: When Burgers Attack! nearly 7 years later.
  2. While simple, the controls are extremely tight and responsive for the most part. Holding the left or right arrow key long enough will cause Papa Louie to sprint, which can be useful for certain things such as speedrunning and reaching certain heights.
    • Pressing the X key allows Papa Louie to attack using his pizza paddle, and pressing said button while walking will cause Papa Louie to do a poised attack, walking slower. He can also use the pizza paddle in order to deflect projectiles at Pizza Monsters, turning them into normal pizzas.
    • Pressing the the Z key allows Papa Louie to throw pepper bombs, if he has any.
    • Speaking of pepper bombs, they are a prominent part of the gameplay, as they are required in order to defeat enemies quicker and fight bosses. The player can also purchase pepper bombs from Big Pauly, with each pepper bomb being worth 10 coins.
    • Holding down the spacebar mid-air allows Papa Louie to glide, which is especially vital in the Kongregate version of the game, where some of the Kongregate coins can only be reached by gliding.
  3. A very nice and detailed art style and graphics, especially for 2006 Flash game standards, and have not aged poorly one bit, given that this was one of Flipline Studios' first games.
  4. Good and original soundtrack, especially the level select and boss battle themes.
  5. The game marks the debut of Sarge, who serves as the main antagonist and final boss of the game, in which he would later go on to re-appear in the game's two sequels as a boss.
    • Speaking of which, almost all of the characters in the game would later go on to re-appear in other games in the franchise as recurring characters.
  6. While the game may seem pretty easy at first, it does actually get challenging, especially in the last world of the game which takes place in a mine, with there being more enemies and hazards.
  7. Some of the worlds in the game are cleverly based on the ingredients of pizza.
    • The first world takes place in a multigrain field, the main material for the dough of the pizza.
    • The second world takes place in a pasta jungle, while the third world is a tomato saucy city.
  8. The Kongregate version of the game has 36 Kongregate coins that are scattered across every stage, and collecting all of them allows you to unlock the Hard "Gourmet Kongregate Supreme" badge, which is worth 30 Kongregate points if the player is a Kongregate user.

Qualities That Can't Liberate Papa Louie's Customers

  1. The three red coins hidden in each level are pointless to collect, as you are not rewarded with anything once you collect all of them.
  2. A very little amount of invincibility frames, making it possible to repeatedly take damage from enemies until you die.
  3. The screen is a bit too small.
  4. As of 2021, the game is sadly no longer playable due to the shutdown of Adobe Flash, with the only ways to play the game even after 2021 is by downloading an SWF and playing it on Adobe Flash Player, or using a browser that still supports Flash even after 2021, such as Pale Moon or Basilisk.

Trivia

  • Papa Louie's original name was going to be Papa Lucci, but Tony Solary and Matt Neff changed it because it would have been confusing to pronounce.
  • The original name of the game was supposed to be Pizza Panic. At the same time, another game called Pizza Panic (by Arcade Lab) was released, and Matt and Tony renamed it to Papa Lucci: When Pizzas Attack! Following the above alteration, it eventually became Papa Louie: When Pizzas Attack!
  • This is one of the only games in the entire Papa Louie franchise to have Papa Louie as a playable character, along with the game's two sequels and Papa's Burgeria.
  • This is also the only game to have voice acting, with Papa Louie being the only character who speaks via audio instead of text bubbles like the rest of the characters.
  • Before an update which allowed customizable controls, there were alternate controls. You could press Z or W or Y to swing, and Space or C to jump.
