Plot

In the outer reaches of the galaxy, a mother ship in the shape of a pressure cooker is home to some very strange creatures: space lasagna! Their ambition is to invade Planet Earth. When the space lasagna check out Jon's neighborhood, they run into Odie. They think that all humans are just like him, and decide to invade.

Why It Rocks

  1. Despite being the second adaptation of Garfield, it is a very good way to introduce the characters even despite the fact that this episode doesn't really feel like a first episode, and because of this, it's already a good start to overall one of the most polarising show of the Garfield franchise.
  2. There's a lot of likable characters such as Garfield, Odie and Jon.
  3. The beginning of the episode is really funny because it is a scene where Garfield wake up Jon brutally but in a very hilarous way and it is some good slapsticks that are similar to a Tom and Jerry cartoon or even Garfield and Friends.
  4. The space lasagna make their debut here, and while they aren't at their best, they still need to debut somewhere and they can be hilarous at times, howewer one of them actually did beat Garfield with his martial arts skill.
  5. The animation, while not so great compared to season 2-5, is passable and better than the animation in the CGI trilogy films.
  6. The concept of space lasagnas were never actually seen before, which mean that this is the first episode of the show and it already had an unique concept, howewer unfortunately not many unique concepts from the franchise would appear in the show.
  7. Funny Ending: While the ending is rather bad for Garfield himself, it still hilarous because he though that after all these days he was eating talking lasagnas, and when Jon propose him lasagnas, he run away thinking that it's another one of those space lasagnas.

Bad Qualities

  1. Misleading Title: While the episode focus on the space lasagnas and that they want to capture Garfield, it is not really a war, at such it had a misleading title that doesn't fit the plot of this episode.
  2. At times Garfield still act like a jerk, such as when he want another part of lasagna despite eating 8 of them and acting like a brat, howewer he is not unlikable in this episode at all.

Reception

It received a 6.6 on IMDb along with "Mother Garfield"
