Patrick's Staycation is episode 7a from the 8th season of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Plot

When Patrick can't afford a vacation, SpongeBob comes up with the perfect solution.

Patprick Qualities

  1. This episode feels like a lazy rip-off of "Krusty Towers" from Season 4 since Patrick is being a difficult customer in here, and some ridiculous requests he gives to SpongeBob are similar to the ones that Squidward gave to Mr. Krabs in "Krusty Towers".
  2. This is another typical SpongeBob torture episode.
    • It can also be considered an episode where things very rarely go right for Squidward given how cruel Patrick is toward him, except here Patrick is being a jerk to him for no reason.
      • Now, Patrick's ways of being a jerk has already gone to the point of being grating.
        • He acts like an ungrateful jerk to SpongeBob the whole way, even when SpongeBob tries to give him a "staycation" like he wanted him to.
        • He says the homemade "pool" (which is actually a bathtub) needs a diving board.
        • Later, Patrick thinks the room furniture needs to be arranged over and over again until he decides on the furniture being right the original way.
        • When SpongeBob is making him a Krabby Patty, he demands entertainment. Then he gripes about no entertainment with his dinner.
        • Patrick breaks into Squidward's house and eats his food, also calling the staycation SpongeBob made for him a dump.
  3. There are some very strange moments with this episode. One noticeable example is the scene where SpongeBob is about to make Patrick a Krabby Patty, only for Mr. Krabs to appear out-of-nowhere and demand money from SpongeBob. This scene is just there to show Mr. Krabs is cheap, which is fine, but really bizarre and just comes off as greedy.
    • Apparently, being lazy for a long time will make you want to have a vacation.
  4. Bad ending: Patrick takes over SpongeBob's bed thinking that SpongeBob's pineapple is a hotel, causing the poor sponge to sleep at Mr. Krabs' anchor house.
  5. Out of all the episodes from the Runaway Roadtrip miniseries episodes from Season 8, this episode is one of the most intolerable episodes from the six along with "Mr. Krabs Takes a Vacation"
    • It's also ended Nate Cash's career in SpongeBob on the very flat note.

Good Qualities

  1. While the ending is poor, Mr. Krabs letting SpongeBob sleep at his house is very kind of him, and is one of the very (in these seasons, at least) rare moments that Mr. Krabs shows a caring side, considering he demanded him money from SpongeBob earlier in the episode.
  2. A few funny moments here and there like Squidward pushing Patrick off the massage chair to steal his massage, and SpongeBob's line: "This calls for CPR, Candy Peppermint Resuscitation."
  3. The first two minutes of the episode are okay.

Reception

  • Patrick's Staycation is ranked 6th on Mr. Enter's "Top 10 Worst Patrick's a Prick Episodes"
  • IMDB rated this 6.5/10, along with its sister episode, Walking The Plankton.
  • WatchMojo used this episode as a reason for their "Top 10 Reason Spongebob should end his friendship with Patrick" list.
