Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 is a 2015 American action comedy film directed by Andy Fickman and written by Kevin James and Nick Bakay. It is the sequel to 2009 film Paul Blart: Mall Cop and is the second film in the Paul Blart: Mall Cop series overall.
Synopsis
Taking place six years after the first film, Paul Blart is recovering from several misfortunes. His wife Amy divorced him six days into their marriage, and two years later, his mother was killed after being hit by a milk truck. To feel better, Paul takes pride in patrolling the mall. Four years later, as Blart says he has "officially peaked", he receives an invitation to a security officers' convention in Las Vegas and begins to believe his luck is about to change. His daughter, Maya, discovers that she was accepted into UCLA and plans to move across the country to Los Angeles, but in light of her father's invitation, she decides to withhold the information for now.
Why It's Not A High Roller
- It feels completely unnecessary, as the previous film had a good ending and did not need a sequel.
- Very weak plot.
- Horrible acting, especially from Kevin James, Rani Rodriguez and Neal McDonough.
- Tiresome supporting characters.
- Unfunny and weak humor; compared to the original film which had some good moments of sarcastic humor.
- Forgettable and unoriginal moments.
- Atrocious puppetry for the bird, which looks absolutely fake and unrealistic.
- Very poor intro in which it completely destroys all of Paul Blart's hard-earned happiness from the ending of the original film.
- Shameless product placements (eg. Wynn Las Vegas Hotel).
- Boring and pointless slapstick.
- Lame action scenes that many films have done better.
- Some horrendous dialogue.
- The film was stuck in development hell for 6 years.
- No jokes or comedy at all, compared to WIS #5.
- Surprisingly bad ending; especially compared to the original film.
- This film was so bad that in nearly killed the Paul Blart: Mall Cop film franchise.
- Misleading title: Despite being called Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, the first half of the film focuses more on the Wynn Las Vegas Hotel rather than the mall, which is pretty surprising considering that the first film focused on the mall.
- Weak directing skill of Andy Fickman, the same director behind Playing With Fire (which is already a red flag).
Redeeming Qualities
- There's an exciting climax in which Paul Blart stops being a moron and takes down the bad guys, just like in the original.
- Good soundtrack.
- The scene with Mini Kiss on the elevator is pretty funny.
Reception
The film received much worse reviews than its predecessor. The film holds a critic approval rating of 6%, and an audience approval rating of 34% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critic consensus reads: "Bathed in flop sweat bereft of purpose, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 stings together fat-shaming humor and Segway sight gags with uniformly unfunny results." On Metacritic, the film has a critic score of 13 out of 100, based on 16 critics, indicating "overwhelming dislike", while the audience score is a 2.5/10. On IMDb, the average rating is a 4.4/10.
Possible sequel
In January 2022, James expressed interest in making a third film, but stated that a script had not yet been developed. Co-star Lauren Ash has also expressed interest in doing a sequel.

- The film rejected a theatrical release in Russia, but was released direct-to-video in said country.
- A producer confirmed that a character called "The Shadowman" was going to appear in the film. The Shadowman was going to be a god-like being who put Paul Blart through his trials. After a great amount of discussion, it was decided the filmmakers remove The Shadowman, seeing that the studio wanted to keep the film grounded in reality.
- Voice actor Brock Baker helped people rediscover the Paul Blart sequel due to his liking of it.
