Percy's New Friends is the fourth episode of the fifteenth series.
Plot
Percy wants to play but his friends are too busy, so he goes to find animals to play with.
Why It Doesn't Deserve New Friends
- Percy's flanderization, which began in "Day of the Diesels," accelerated in this episode, showcasing him at his most unintelligent.
- He neglects his duties and prefers to play instead.
- He doesn't even give the animals he encounters any creative names, simply calling them Mr. Seagull, Mr. Rabbit, Mr. Bird, and Mr. and Mrs. Squirrel.
- As usual in Seasons 12-16, the dialogue tends to be redundant, and the use of rhyming and alliteration is poorly executed.
- Continuity error: The idea of Percy being frightened by Gordon's passing is absurd, as he should have grown accustomed to it. Indeed, Percy has been depicted admiring Gordon in episodes like "Gordon Takes Charge" and "Being Percy."
- Bad moral: It teaches kids to befriend wild animals as long as they're gentle.
- All the animals are perched atop Percy, posing a significant danger, as they might tumble off if Percy accelerates sufficiently.
Befriended Qualities
- Some characters like Emily, Cranky, Thomas, and Salty are still likeable.
- Thomas and Emily aren't flanderized like they usually are as well.
- In the episode's conclusion, Percy makes an effort to treat the wild animals with gentleness.
Reception
It has an extremely low rating of 2.4/10 on IMDb.
Trivia
- Throughout most of the episode, a recreated instrumental version of Percy's theme from Season 8 is heard.
- On the official Thomas & Friends page on the PBS Kids website, a shortened version of this episode was uploaded.
- This is the first episode to be written by Gerard Foster.
- Salty and Cranky make their first and only speaking roles in Season 15.
- This is also the first episode since "Saving Edward" from Season 9 that the Coastal Cliffs are seen.
