Perfect Weapon (also known as Body Hazard in Japan) is an action-adventure beat 'em up game developed by Gray Matter and published by ASC Games.

The game was released on November 21, 1996 for PlayStation and February 1997 for Windows 95. There was also a Sega Saturn port, which was scheduled for release on May 1997, but cancelled.

It was marketed as "Tekken 2 meets Resident Evil". However, it received mixed to negative reviews.

Why It's Not Perfect

  1. The plot for this game is very bland and generic, even for an action-adventure game.
  2. Awful and clunky controls with two styles that have to be changed before and after fighting.
  3. Poor camera that also constantly zooms in and out in certain areas whenever it feels like it.
  4. Sometimes the loading screen can be very long.
  5. Poor graphics, even by 1996 standards, with Resident Evil style pre-rendered graphics and very blocky 3D models, although the PC version has sharper backgrounds due to higher resolution.
  6. The hit detection is so poor that it is almost non-existent. Most of your attacks phase through enemy hitboxes, as if they were ghosts.
  7. The music in this game sounds mediocre, dull and repetitive most of the time.
  8. The voice acting for characters sound lame, dull and boring to listen to, as if the voice actors didn't even try.
  9. The game has only 5 levels, which is extremely short. To rub salt on the wound, all of the levels are long, tedious and annoying.
  10. There is little variety in enemies. There are only two enemy types: one humanoid and one animal-like creature.
  11. Each of the levels also have certain sections in which enemies respawn endlessly.
  12. You can't just rush through the level, complete it and move on to the next, because you have to collect enough yellow orbs from enemies whom you defeat, with the required percentage needed before you can even do so.
  13. The ending for this game feels unsatisfying.

Reception

GamePro gave it a 3.38 out of 5 for the PSX port. They praised the game for its graphics, but found the hit detection rather poor and compared the game to Resident Evil.
