How ironic is it that Peter's struggles with being a now-unemployed husband doesn't even close to the real problem: the episode itself.

Peter Problems is the 219th episode of Family Guy. It was released on January 5th, 2014, as the 9th episode of the 12th season.

Plot

When Peter loses his job and has trouble performing his husbandly duties, he enlists Quagmire and Joe to help him regain his mojo.

Why It's a Problem

  1. The infamous and shockingly disturbing scene where Peter skewers a whale with a forklift in a full minute, complete with disembowelment and just being forced to look at it. Easily one of the worst scenes in the entire show.
    • By disembowelment, some of the insides of the whale fall out.
    • "You're Whale-come" isn't exactly the best thing to say to people after they've watched one of the most violent scenes in a cartoon.
  2. The plot where Peter can't get a boner while having sex after he lost his job makes no sense whatsoever, how is that even a plot?.
  3. The scene where Peter puts Chris in the oven, Meg's head in a microwave, and Stewie in the freezer is both unfunny and disturbing.
  4. The Griffin family (except Peter) are unlikeable as they laugh at Peter because he can't get a boner, which is very mean of them.
  5. Most of the jokes in this episode are unfunny, and bad attempts at humor:
    • The cutaway where Peter doing a podcast where he lists all the hats.
    • The scene where Lois at the job interview where she answers "Groceries" at every question, except the trick question, which she answered "I'm hired" (The trick question is "Groceries?").
    • The cutaway with Peter working at the bowling alley.
    • Dr. Hartman trying be "sexy" to get Peter a boner.
  6. Like many modern Family Guy episodes, jokes are explained before they happen:
    • Lois tells Chris and Meg to run behind another kid when they getting there picture taken because they can't afford them.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The first act of Peter becoming a Forklift operator was decent, despite the infamous scene mentioned in WIS #1.
  2. While most jokes where unfunny, some of the jokes are funny.
    • The Bach and Debussy joke is hillarious.
  3. The Lion King scene where Peter lift a baby lion cub with a forklift is pretty cool.
  4. Peter (aside from the whale scene), Joe and Quagmire were the only likeable characters in this episode, and Peter and Quagmire aren’t flanderized like they usually are.
  5. Peter gets his job back at the end.

Reception

The episode has a 6.5/10 rating on IMDb.
