Pinkalicious & Peterrific is an educational animated children's television series based on the Pinkalicious book series by Victoria and Elizabeth Kann. The series premiered on PBS Kids on February 19, 2018. WGBH Kids and Sixteen South produced 38 episodes for the first season. The series was later renewed for a second and third season in October 2019; the second season premiered on March 30, 2020, and ended on December 7, 2020; the third season premiered on June 18, 2021.

Plot

Following the adventures of Pinkalicious and her brother Peter. Pinkalicious imagines creative possibilities everywhere she looks. She is an artist at heart, like most creative people, she sees the world differently from others.

Pinkatrocious Qualities

  1. Pinkalicious Pinkerton herself is a very unlikable spoiled brat protagonist as she tells everyone what to do, including the mayor; she often doesn't think before she acts. She also rarely gets karma for her actions, making her a Karma Houdini.
    • Other characters in the show are unlikable as well.
  2. Similar to the books, the show is extremely stereotypical to young girls due to Pinkalicious' obsession with the color pink.
  3. Lackluster animation that is extremely stiff and has noticeable errors, making the animation look unfinished.
  4. Little to no educational value at all, despite the show being marked as an E/I (educational/informational) program. As shown, its lessons can be bizarre (see BQ#11).
  5. Most of the voice acting is mediocre to bad, with the worst offender being Peter.
  6. Some of the songs are cringe-worthy, such as "I Like to Move Like a Robot".
  7. The show's pacing is pretty slow.
  8. Awful, unfunny, and nonsensical plots similar to the books, such as in the first episode, where Pinkalicious and Peter go to a forest to see springtime fairies and then move in with them.
  9. The show is probably most infamous for its overuse of the color and word, "pink".
    • In the theme song alone, the word "pink" was used 16 times!
      • The worst part is "Pink is a giggle that wiggles your toes" as hearing it said out loud or out of context can be somewhat questionable.
  10. The show at times can have nonsensical morals, like in the episode "Pinkalicious", Pinkalicious eats a bunch of pink cupcakes and ends up turning pink, and when she eats more, she turns red; then when she eats green foods, she returns to normal. Whilst it's obvious the moral is "eat healthy food", the moral may be seen as "If you eat more cupcakes, your skin gets darker; if you eat more vegetables, your skin gets lighter." In real life, that is a nonsensical and stupid moral as you don't get your skin color changed after eating a certain food, except if you eat a lot of carrots, you may turn orange. The moral may also be confusing to children as well.
  11. The punny names don't make sense whatsoever. Even worse, the series is based on a book series, which sounds good on paper, but bad on TV.

Pinkatastic Qualities

  1. The theme song is catchy, although it overuses the word "pink".
    • It's also creative to fine arts as one may see it as viewing pink as many different types of art.
  2. It improved a little starting in Season 4, though not by much.
  3. It can teach kids to at least be creative and use the fine arts.
  4. The background music is somewhat passable.
  5. The animation, whilst stilted, has a somewhat creative flow and decent art style that is faithful to the books.
  6. Some of the voice acting is decent.
  7. Despite being extremely stereotypical, the show itself is not that sexist, and some girls and boys to an extent may enjoy it.
  8. Some of the plots are good, but they are unfortunately rare.

Trivia

  • Around the same time as the show's release, the show has had its musical.

Reception

The show mainly received mainly mixed-to-negative reception, though more on the mixed side. Many people praised it for teaching fine arts whilst others disliked it for its bad animation, unlikable characters, and stereotyping. It currently holds a 5.3/10 on IMDb.
