"Pocoyo's World Sports Games" is the 21st episode of Pocoyo Specials. It was made to celebrate the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which were being hosted in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Why It Doesn't Deserve a Medal
- The episode has the infamous case where someone lets the other person who lost wins a game while the other players who have won do not get a chance to win a game which makes it very unfair, especially for players who have worked hard.
- Pocoyo is extremely unlikable in this episode, if not mostly at his absolute worst, much worse than in "You Are Welcome for Thanksgiving" and "My Pato!" as he makes the sports games unfair by giving the losing players a gold medal while treating the players who won way too harsh and even saying that "he's the judge", which is a very ridiculous reason to treat the others too harsh.
- Even when his friends try their best to make him make the game fair, Pocoyo is still rude to them by telling them he is the judge to the point of even making his friends much angrier at him; even the narrator tries to tell Pocoyo off!
- Plot hole: At the end, Baby Bird, Fred, and Loula aren't seen at the final awards ceremony, despite that they appeared in the episode. It also never shows what happened to them.
- Aside from being scolded by his friends and the narrator, Pocoyo receives little-to-no consequence for his harsh actions and gets away with it scot-free, making him a Karma Houdini.
- This episode wasn't a really good way to celebrate the 2021 sports games.
Qualities That Deserve a Medal
- The animation is still good as usual.
- Decent ending: Pocoyo finally learns his lesson about his harsh actions and makes the sports games fair.
- Compared to Pocoyo, the rest of the characters are still likable as usual.
- Good moral: You should always treat your friends fairly, even when they lose a game.
