Poltergeist is a 1982 American supernatural horror film directed by Tobe Hooper.
Plot
Set in a California suburb, the plot focuses on a family whose home is invaded by malevolent ghosts that abduct the family's younger daughter.
Why It Rocks
- Well-written story.
- It's often considered to be the greatest horror film ever made.
- Plenty of scary moments such as the clown doll and the scary tree.
- Great acting.
- Great quotes. The most iconic and memorable ones are “They're here!” and, of course, "This house is clean!".
- Great scary soundtracks such as Carol Anne's theme.
- It inspired two more sequels.
- While the concept of death and the afterlife was executed pretty nicely, it paints death in a more positive light.
- The designs on the ghosts (including the glowing apparition in the staircase and The Beast) were well done and have aged well.
- It inspired The Twilight Zone episode "Little Girl Lost".
Bad Qualities
- It spawned a horrible remake.
- The infamous face-ripping scene has some really bad effects.
- Some product placement, such as Cheerios and Holiday Inn.
