PowerDrome is a game developed by Argonaut Sheffield (Formally Particle Systems) released for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC and was published by Mud Duck Productions (US Versions), Evolved Games (EU Versions), and the PC version was published by Zoo Digital Publishing. This is a remake of the original PowerDrome released back in 1988 for the Atari ST, Amiga, and MS-DOS. Michael Powell was involved with both games.

Bad Qualities

  1. All versions of the game tend to have sensitive controls as you will be crashing into walls a lot of the time and taking too much damage while racing.
  2. Atrocious voice acting. Not only that most of the racers tend to say "Damn it!" a lot, and some voice actors sound either bored or obnoxious.
  3. Stats in the PS2 version for characters tend to be lower than the Xbox version as in the Xbox version they are higher than the PS2 version.
  4. The roster is a tad bit small.
  5. Nexus, a character exclusive to the PS2 version's stats are way to high that you'll crash into walls constantly making you blow up within seconds.
  6. There is a repair option while racing, but upon doing that you will slow down.
  7. The frame rate in the PS2 version drops whenever a massive collision happens.
  8. The Replay camera can cause seizures in different angles.

Good Qualities

  1. Decent graphics for the PS2 version, however amazingly vivid graphics for the Xbox version and PC.
  2. Well animated intro FMV.
  3. Upon beating the final championship you unlock screenshots from the original PowerDrome from 1988 and early versions and visualizations of the game. In the PS2 version you get Nexus... but there is a flaw with this character. (BQ#5)

Trivia

  • This is the Argonaut Sheffield's final game developed as they would shut down in October of 2004.
  • Michael Powell of the original Powerdrome was involved in the development of the remake.
  • Early stages of development would've had the player customize their Dromes but the developers dropped this idea, and harder collisions would've torn a part of a Drome's blade but this too was scrapped.
  • The Logo seems to be inconsistent the box art for the US PS2 and Xbox versions have a more futuristic metallic look to it, but in game the logo is orange and black with big bolded text in all caps.
