Quagmire's Mom is the tenth episode of the thirteenth season of Family Guy. It was written by Tom Devanney, directed by Greg Colton, and aired for the first time on February 8, 2015.

Summary

When Peter opens a checking account, he finds out his legal first name is really Justin, leading him to alter his personality in order to better fit his actual name. As Justin he throws a party, and during it Quagmire accidentally commits statutory rape and will go to prison unless he can get a credible character witness. Shortly after, Quagmire's formerly sexually perverse and promiscuous mother Crystal comes back as a born-again Christian and tries to explain to the judge why he is the way he is.

Why It’s Unmotherly

  1. This is the episode where Quagmire goes way too far. He has sex with a girl named Keira, and to his surprise, Keira is not 23 years old; she is revealed to be a teenager at the age of 15, which is just under the age of consent in Rhode Island. Therefore, Quagmire should not only be arrested for statutory rape, but also for pedophilia.
    • Although this does not really defend Quagmire, Kiera deceives Quagmire into committing statutory rape with her by lying to him about her age. Kiera does not receive any punishment for this deception and immediately disappears for the rest of the episode after Quagmire's arrest with Chris even saying "When are we gonna see this chick?".
  2. This episode contains the infamous "Peter's Karaoke Phase" cutaway, which is arguably one of the worst cutaway gags in the show because it's 90 seconds straight of Peter doing nothing but tapping his foot (which looks more like a still image) waiting for "Baba O'Riley" by "The Who" to start. The main reason why this is in the episode is just for filler. See for yourself how bad the cutaway is.
  3. The entire Justin plot is slaughtered immediately after a few minutes much like many of the plotlines in newer episodes.
    • Even so, the episode claims that every person with the name "Justin" is supposed to be looking like how Peter looks later.
  4. This episode creates a massive plot hole involving Peter’s name. Peter’s middle name had previously been established as Lowenbrau but this episode has Peter actually be his middle name and Justin be his first name.
  5. Abysmal ending: Quagmire gets away with raping an underage girl and is let go by the court, even though he is already a pedophile. EVEN PETER POINTS THIS OUT.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Quagmire (before he got acquitted) finally gets exposed.
  2. Quagmire being told: "Don't think of it as 20 years, think of it as two 10-year olds you sick freak" is priceless.
  3. Even if what Crystal did during Quagmire's early life was wrong, she seems to actually regret her past actions and does apologize with him for how she messed him up by inspiring him to be lustful as her.
  4. There are some funny moments, like the cutaway with Peter in a general car insurance commercial and the scene of toddler Quagmire saying the alphabet with the names of his mother's lovers.

Reception

"Quagmire's Mom" was given a 6.6/10 on IMDb. Viewers criticized the plot and the infamous 90-second cutaway.
