 Before the 2016 reboot of The Powerpuff Girls, there was this mediocre show that almost killed off the Rainbow Brite franchise.

Rainbow Brite is a Flash animated series made by Hallmark Cards based on the 1984 TV series of the same name, that was released on Feeln, now known as Hallmark Movies Now. It originally premiered on November 6, 2014, and it ended on November 20 in the same year when it got premiered.
Plot
When a new friend named Brian arrives from Earth, he teams up with Rainbow Brite to thwart Dark Princess' attempts, and an old acquaintance named Stormy reconsiders her allegiance when the villain pits her against her estranged friend.
Bad Qualities
- The main problem with the series is that it's very unfaithful to the classic Rainbow Brite series of 1984 and completely misses the spirit of what made it so special.
- The flash animation in this series looks very cheap and lazy. On top of that, the color palette may seem bright and colorful, there are cases where they can be an eye sore to watch.
- The idea about making a reboot series based on a classic cartoon from 1984 doesn't seem bad on paper, but it was done before with the 2009 reboot, plus making the reboot only have 1 season and 3 episodes adds to the fact that was in development hell since 2010-2014.
- Just like the Rainbow Rangers theme song, the intro in this show is very stupid with poorly written lyrics like they were done at the very last minute.
- Although they look decent at best, there are very stupid and lazy character designs, especially for the main titular character and her little Sprite helper Twink, now being renamed "Mr. Glitters".
- Speaking of the characters, they are flanderized compared to the original 1984 versions. This is especially the case for Rainbow Brite herself, who went from a cute and caring magical girl that genuinely wanted to save Rainbowland to an annoying Genki-girl with a valley-girl stereotype down to the point where she uses outdated 80s slang such as "rad", removing any ability to take her seriously as a hero than her 80s counterpart.
- False advertising: The series was originally going to have 4 seasons and 80 episodes, but it had 1 season and 3 episodes due to executive meddling and a troubled production.
- Too many animation errors, especially when Rainbow Brite uses her powers.
- Because of the show being extremely unsuccessful in Feeln, now known as Hallmark Movies Now, with virtually no advertising outside of a handful of trailers and the now-defunct website, it killed any potential for the Rainbow Brite franchise to return for modern audiences unlike how My Little Pony did it successfully with Friendship Is Magic.
Good Qualities
- It's an improvement over the 2009 Mattel web series.
- The animation, despite being cheap, is decent.
- Some of the powers that Rainbow Brite uses can always be very great.
- Starlite's redesign looks very good.
- Stormy is one of the few characters that are likable along with Murky and Lurky.
- As mentioned in BQ#5, some of the characters redesigns look decent. On top of that, the new art style is simplified but has its own charm.
- Eventually, the franchise would have a comic book series which, although it ended on a cliffhanger, it's an improvement.
- As 2024, Rainbow Brite will be have another reboot, both TV series and movie and it will be released either on streaming service or television channel.
Reception
The 2014 series received mixed-to-negative reviews, having a 61% on Google and a 4.8/10 on IMDb.
